Ok so I have a question, and this is for a family that eats meat and potatoes most of the time, nothing weird or fishy, etc. What is your most favorite place to eat that has good food and not "fancy" foods. We have eaten at the "Garden Grill" "The Crystal Palace" "Whispering Canyon Cafe" and liked it, and also the other people in my family that came with us that like "fancy food" liked these places as well. I just didnt know if anybody had anymore suggestions that would be a happy medium for us to eat when we go back? Thanks for your time and possible help, and hope to be there next year!!!

I would suggest Artist Point or Yachtsman Steakhouse for something a bit more classy that would both appeal to the less adventurous and those who might want to try something a little different.

They both have standard meat and potato-style fare, and both offer entrees and appetizers that might be seen as more exotic.

The steak and potato lovers in our group loved LeCellier. It might be "fancier" than what you wanted but I don't think it's that much more expensive than some of the pricier character buffets--and the food is alot better!

Love both Artists Point and YS...definitely a step up in food, but also a step up into "fancy" atmosphere. Perhaps LeCellier? Good food, steak and potatoes, but in a park, so less "fancy" in atmosphere.

for breakfast: Cape May Cafe
Boma - has many ethnic things, but they also offer standard
fare which is wonderful!

Lunch and Dinner: The Plaza at MK is good
I agree with Liberty Tree Tavern at MK if you like Thanksgiving offerings.
Le Cellier in Canada if you can get a ressie.
You would probably do fine at most buffets except for: Chef Mickey's and Hollywood and Vine for quality and Boma would be way too exotic.

Also remember that at some of the fancier restaurants, the food sounds exotic on the menu, but when you get it... it's really just meat and potatoes! Honest!

You described my family to a T!! Here's our usual list of restaurants that are almost always a hit (for supper):
Crystal Palace
Liberty Tree Tavern
'Ohana
Garden Grill
Cape May (although last time wasn't as great)
Cosmic Rays and Flame Tree BBQ for lunch.
Those are our favorites! :) Good luck!

Thanks for the responses!! and when i say "fancy" i mean the expensive weird food, (that my sister will eat and i do mean WEIRD!!) she can eat raw fish, pasta dishes, i could go on for hours!! and she thinks i am just as weird due to me not trying or eating any of it!! i just cant handle all that, just give me a steak, potato or ff, and bread and i am good! or chicken something simple!! :upsidedow

Crystal Palace and WCC are our favorites, as we are a meat and potatoes family too. ;)

I can agree that Liberty Tree Tavern (especially for dinner) is a fabulous choice. Roasted turkey, ham and roast beef with mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, a veggie and for dessert apple crisp....c'mon...you don't get more meat and potatoes than that. :rotfl2:

We also like the buffet at Chef Mickey's. It is a bit like Crystal Palace yet a little different. So that you may want to try.
And I have to say I agree with Ohana. Even though it isn't "potatoes" with the meal and is noodles. The skewers of sirloin, chicken and pork (don't eat the shrimp), we love them!! And you if you like dessert at the end of a meal you can't beat Ohana. That bread pudding is the best dessert on property IMO (and I don't like bread pudding).

One place we did not like is Boma. Too many sweet spices on everything for us. Even the meat had sweetness to it, the soups the veggies, it all tasted like a holiday dessert to me.

Enjoy your eating and have a good trip!!

I'm as "meat and potatos" as they come and I've found something that suites be at most WDW restaurants, although I usually avoid those with cuisines that simply don't interest me. All restaurants display menus outside so you can check them before you go in. If you're trying to plan ahead, you can check the menu listings on the opening page of this site. Just keep in mind that menus can and do change so double-check closer to your arrival. Also, the better restaurants will usually accommodate guests who request a menu selection on the plain side such as asking for your steak plain when the menu describes it with an exotic sauce or something you don't understand. Always ask when you're not sure about something.

I'm a picky meat and potatoes (chicken fingers and fries / steak and mashed) type of girl. Some of my faves that I can suggest for you are: (remember you can sub things you don't like or ask for no sauce, etc etc)

Yachtsman Steakhouse
Captain's Grille
Chefs de France Lunch
Mama Melrose Lunch
Big River Grille
California Grill
Grand Floridian Cafe

We are a pretty plain eating family too. We ate at a ton of places and we all found something to eat. Now, I am very picky. I am learning to try new foods and have been doing better but won't try anything I find too exotic. Even includes some cheeses. I just can't do it. My son is 14 and has Asperger's Syndrome. It is a form of Autism. Autistic kids have a very narrow pallet. He, too, is learning to try things though I won't push it since it does more damage than good with him. But he has a very basic diet and doesn't do fancy, seafood, or spicy.

Rainforest Cafe- Burgers, Bamba's chicken wrap is really good, doesn't have anything weird in it, chicken was much better than the beef. The turkey wrap was not so good.
50's Prime Time- probably right up your family's alley but nothing really fancy here
Sci Fi Dine In- burgers are good here. The ribs were pretty good.
Coral Reef- the steak is very good here. The chicken was also super good. I am not a seafood person. I just cannot eat it. Nothing tasted fishy here which is what I was afraid of. The food was all very good.
Sunshine Seasons- lots of choices. Some very basic oriental food but other things if you guys don't eat that. Also, Electric Umbrella and Cool Wash Pizza are not too far away so maybe the plain eaters could get something from one of these places and just take it back to The Land to eat.
Le Cellier- Big hit in my family. This is the first place my son ate steak. And at 13, it is nice to now eat even at home without watching him eat some TV dinner.
Liberty Inn- burgers. they are ok.
Teppan Edo- sounds like it would be weird food but was really just steak and chicken on a grill with noodles and veggies. The sauces are served on the side. The ginger cake was awesome.
Yakitori House- fast food Japanese. Good since my son will actually eat it.
Casey's Corner- hot dogs. I hate hot dogs but will eat the hot dog nuggets here. Not for adventurous eaters.
Crystal Palace- buffet. has something for everyone.
The Plaza- burgers and sandwiches. Haven't gotten anything we didn't like here.

Most of the buffet's will have plenty to satisfy even the most basic meat and potato lovers. out there. They almost all have carving stations etc. Cape May will even have ribs, mac & cheese, corn on the cob. etc. They are used to feeding many different dietary needs. Who knows if something smells appetizing at one of those buffets you may just get a little adventurous. You won't pay extra for trying.

50's Prime Time (fried chicken, meatloaf, pot roast ) and Sci Fi Dine (burgers, chicken sandwich, ribs) in both at DHS are perfect. Trails End buffet or Hoop De Doo Dinner show both at Fort Wilderness with fried chicken, mashed potatoes, ribs, cornbread, strawberry shortcake for dessert. Boatwrights at Port Orleans Resort prime rib, pork chops, tenderloin with mac and cheese.

The Biergarten. We are the meat and potatoes people (any place we go to has to have a burger) and find we very happy medium with this place. It might not be "true" meat and potatoes but it's very close. Plus, you have entertainment and everyone can get what they want. We've eaten here with my brother-in-law who is a kind of vegetarian, my mother-in-law who is never really satisfied with anything she ever gets, my granddaughter who said she hated the smell of sauerkraut (you really can't smell any of it and that little girl had a blast dancing).

What is weird about Pasta? Spaghetti? Macaroni? Yeah, those all ping my "weird food radar". Nothing simpler than a grilled chicken breast over linguine pasta, even with out sau

I am sorry that this didnt "ping your radar" and those are simple pastas!!! i am talking about a mixed combo of pasta, meats, veggies into one with a weird sauce, raw fish, eating stuff with a wide mixture of veggies, i cant sit here and pick one dish for you. i am asking for a "meat and potato" on the menu so we can eat as well as my sister enjoy something that she likes?

'Weird' is so subjective. Some people, for example, might find it weird to eat red meat and potatoes every day. Unhealthy too. ;)

i didnt say i ate red meat and potatoes everyday, and all i am wanting is for the people that can give me info on places that they have eaten at before that can be helpful, to my situation. thanks!

Don't mind some of the comments. I find that you will have this in about any thread, especially when it is about something people are passionate about.

My advice, look at the posts that offer the info you are looking for and ignore the ones looking to debate. ;)
