Question for Marylanders -- Crabcakes

Tell me -- Are there any real crabcakes served anywhere on property?

I'm from Maryland and I don't bother to order crabcakes anywhere but from about 5 restaurants in the Baltimore area. I don't even make an exception for Disney. I just figure that since I can get the real thing any time I want, why would I order it anywhere else? Maybe that makes me a crabcake snob, but seriously, once you've been to Friendly Farms, Pappas's or G & M's, you shouldn't bother with any other crabcakes :)

I'm from Maryland and I don't chance it either. Even at Disney. :)

Had crab cakes at Captains Grille this year. What was I thinking? They were absolutely awful. All mush and filler. Don't bother if you're from MD.

Only MD has the authentic crab cake. Most places put other kinds of stuff in them that just doesn't belong. We are picky about our crabcakes

We are originally from York, PA so we know a good crab cake. I have yet to find a good crab cake anywhere else.

We went to a local restaurant that had a special of Maryland style crab cakes. I thought yummy and gave them a shot. When our waitress asked how it was I said that they have obviously never had a real crab cake. She looked at me like I was crazy.

I live near md and don't bother w crab cakes at disney..... Much better things to try :)

Another Marylander here, agree 100% with everyone, never had a good, real, MD crab cake in any state but MD, not even Disney

We have lived in DE since 2010 and had no idea what we were missing all those years until we had the real thing. So yum!

Another Marylander here (who eats crabs almost every week June- Aug).....we don't bother ordering anywhere else.

We gave up trying to get good crab cakes in Florida. I wonder if they have every heard of "Old Bay Seasoning" - don't think so. We have ordered them at several places both on and off property and they are no where near authentic. We do not even attempt it any more.

Thanks for your replies. We are crabcake snobs too. Born and raised in Bawlmer and spent summers down 'e oshun, hon. I make a great crabcake but sadly, it is hard to find good crabmeat any more. We don't order crabcakes anywhere but in Maryland. I'm trying to plan ADRs taking my shellfish-loving hubby into consideration and there really are not many choices. Many of the menus have crabcakes on them, but I kept getting a picture in my head of lots of filler and weird seasonings and sauces.

DizneyLizzie -- I don't know about the other two places you mentioned, but we do enjoy the crabcakes at Friendly Farms. Crabcake Factory in OC has great crabcakes. We learned not to eat there, but just buy crabcakes to go. I"m not sure what holds their crabcakes together, they seem to be nothing but jumbo lump backfin and seasoning.

It's just setting yourself up with too much disappointment to order a crabcake outside of Maryland. Quite often, there is just too much filler and not enough crab. I'll stick with G&M or By the Docks. Even my local Box Hill Pizzeria makes a mean crabcake.

Mmmm...Friendly Farms and G&Ms.

Don't do it! You'll be disappointed! Rule of thumb is to only get crab cakes in Maryland...

Im in ocean city right now, and told my parents I expect to eat nothing but seafood. They listened and we ate so well yesterday. It seems whenever I came with my siblings, all they wanted was pizza, fries, and popcorn.

Holy cow, those crab cakes from Friendly Farms are as big as the plate! Delish.

If you guys (and gals) ever wander southward, try the Edgewater Restaurant in Edgewater - obviously. I think they are better than G&M, and lucky for me a heck of a lot closer to my house.

I am from Michigan (obvious by my username ;) ) - we visited Maryland about 25 years ago and I had crabcakes for the first time anywhere. I have been searching since then to have any even close to that amazing. No can do. Marylanders know how to make crabcakes :thumbsup2
