Just finished listening to the e-mail show from last week on my way to work, and I was intrigued by the swiffer like auto floor cleaning bot John talked about. :)

Sounds cool, but, I'm wondering how, and if, it handles area rugs in a room? I understand it doesn't clean carpets at all, but what I mean is, does it have the capability to go around them? Asking, as 80% of our house is hard wood flooring or tile, but most rooms have some type of area rug, or runner in them.

Thanks...and great discussion on all those odd items by the way! I agree with the crew as well; The DIS, and the podcast team, has cost me a fortune in "stuff". Fortunately, it has all been worth it. My most recent purchase was through Hydroflask, for yet ANOTHER bottle. The new white one. Great product, and as a side note, I think you guys need a kick back from them for all you have probably sold, LOL.

Thanks for all, as always!

I wondered the same thing. Also, does it stop when it gets to carpet.

I don't actually want one, but my mind went there, too. :)

I do not own the "Mint" cleaner that John recommended, but I own the iRobot Roomba. I also have mostly hardwood floors and the Roomba does a pretty good job. Mine does go over the big carpet in the living room, but I have to pick up the smaller ones in the bedroom (I throw them into the washer).

I am thinking of also getting the "Mint."

The Mint - http://mintcleaner.com/ - does stop at the area rugs in the living room.

I do have to pick up the 'mats' by the doors as those seem to low/thin for it to figure out they're not part of the floor - but it handles the area rugs very well.

Heh, cool; and thanks for the replies all. I think I might have to hit up BB&B with that 20% off coupon and try one out. ;)

I have heard this one is really cool: http://www.neatorobotics.com/ . It maps out the room and is very systematic about cleaning as opposed to bumping around the room until it dies. It will also redock itself when the battery gets low then resume when charged where it left off. Engadget raved about it.

For carpet my sister has a Roomba.

My teenage son who is in charge of vacuuming at my house was very jealous when he saw it in action. :rotfl:

I want the Mint. That would be so helpful.

Printed out my BBnB coupon and bought my Mint yesterday. Can't say how happy I was when I got home today to find him sweeping up the floor. Such a hardworking bot. We just moved into a new house with all hardware floors, all on one level. I have a new favorite pet. :lovestruc Thanks for the tip!
