No- It is not a religious question :)
I need an idea for something to serve for book club.
The characters in the book are Jewish- so I thought that I would try to serve something to go with the theme.
Some kind of morning type thing like a coffee cake. I might do bagels -but I thought there might be something else I could consider
Thanks so much!!

Bagels, matzah bri, lox, whitefish, ruggelah, monkey bread, tuna salad...

I would serve bagels with cream cheese and a noodle kugel. I'd skip the whitefish and lox because they are somewhat expensive foods that people may not like if they are not used to them.

Thanks! What is a noodle kugel? I think I have seen ruggelah before in a bakery.

Noodles! and Kugel! duh :rotfl2:

It's like a noodle casserole and depending on the person/family they put all different ingredients in it. Some are truely amazingly wonderful comfort foods :thumbsup2

When I tell you the ingredients you'll think it's gross but I swear it's delicious - it's the ultimate "white" food. Noodles, cottage cheese, sour cream, eggs, sugar & raisins. Even my very decidedly goy husband loves the stuff.

Thanks everyone. I will google the kugel (Im a poet!) :goodvibes

I've got a great recipe from my MIL...totally yummy! I always double the recipe and bake in a 13x9 pyrex.
1/2 lb wide egg noodle
4 eggs
1 stick of butter
1 lb cottage cheese
1 cup sour cream
1/3 cup sugar
cinnamon/sugar mixture to taste

boil noodles for 6 minutes, drain and add 3/4 of the butter. Mix in large bowl until butter is melted

add sour cream and cottage cheese

beat the eggs in a seperate bowl then add to the noodles

add sugar, mix everything together and pour into greased pyrex (I use PAM)

spread mixture evenly, "dot" the top with remaining 1/4 of butter then sprinkle the top with cinnamon/sugar mixture to taste

preheat oven to 425

bake at 425 for 15 minutes then at 350 for 30 minutes.

Enjoy!!

ETA: Raisins are optional...I don't care for them but many people love them.
