I currently teach part time at a private school and hold a Masters in math Ed.
I currently teach 2 pre-cals and AP calculus. Next year I am adding AP Stats. Today I was asked to also add an Algebra 1. I am very hesitant as I am part time an want to be available in the afternoon for my 3 kids. I am afraid 2 new preps, with one being an AP might be too much. then there is the money. I currently get $18,000 for 3 classes and I estimate $22000 for 4. If I taught in public, I would make about $43,000 and have 3 classes each semester. But I would have to deal the the politics, paperwork etc that go along with public. Would you add a 4th prep for $4000? One of the main reasons I am in private is so i can be part time. Help me sort this out. Oh, and If I don't, it will be added to an already overloaded teacher. She would have 6 classes and 4-5 preps. So I also feel guilty.
