Question for freq. flyers on SW

Just wondering how often you have to travel for the rapid rewards program to benefit you. Do you have to make so many trips within a years time. Sorry if this seems lika a stupid question, but I'v never looked into it, and was just looking through another SW thread. Thanks!

You need to get 16 credits within 24 months to get a free roundtrip ticket. Generally it takes 8 roundtrip flights to hit 16 credits, but sometimes they have offers where you can earn double credits or something. I don't fly THAT often, but I figure, hey, it's free...so it's not going to put me out to sign up just in case I wind up doing having to fly more often.
