Question for experts of Disney Visa redemption cards and gift cards

I guess I'd like verification that I'm getting the most bang for my buck.
Here's what I plan to do. Instead of charging my disney room and park tickets on my Disney Visa when I get to WDW and in turn earning points that I couldn't use until we get back I thought it would be a good idea to buy enough $500 disney gift cards now online through the Disney Store and use them to pay for our room and park tickets when we get there. And by doing it now I'll earn my 2% on my Disney gift card purchases on my Disney Visa Premier making my redemption card worth more for our trip. That is assuming that gift cards earn rewards just like any purchases from the Disney Store, do they? Does that sound like a good plan or is there a better way to go about earning the most dollars before we go to WDW?

If you bought a package I think you have to pay at the 45 day mark so you can use your visa right away and redem your points once you get to WDW(I think you can do it in MK, not sure where) If your going to buy gift card's you might as well use your Target debit card and get a 5% discount = a 25$ savings.

As far as I know, any purchase at the Disney Store, including gift cards, will give you the 2% earning. I did this when I had the 5% earning bonus and it was great. We paid for a lot of our meals with our redemption gift card!


Also, I do not have a BJ's card so I don't know if it counts for a 2% earning rate under grocery stores but if it does and you have a BJ's card, you might want to buy your gift cards there. They sell Disney gift cards at about $4 off $100 and about $2 off $50. Combined with a 2% earning, it could be a nice deal for you if it works!

This will work exactly like you planned. The only drawback would be that gift cards are non-refundable. So if something happens and you have to cancel your trip, your money is tied up in gift cards that are only good at Disney.

If you plan to buy your tickets from Disney and stay at a Disney resort, you might as well book a package, pay for it completely at the 45-day mark (or earlier) and cash in your rewards before you leave. If anything happens and you have to cancel, your money gets refunded to your card (minus the cancellation penalty).
