For those of you who get to the park whne it opens, how long are the lines in popular rides? Im wondering if its worth getting up really early. Also do people actually run to the rides so they can be there first?

Yes, people actually run to the rides so they can be first. Yes, it is definitely worth getting up early. The ride lines are considerably less first thing in the morning, and build up over the next 2 hours. We have been able to ride most of our favorites before the late risers make it to the parks! :cool1:

You really can do more by getting there when the park opens than getting there later in the morning. By working your Fast passes right, you can do all your favorites in less than 2 hours.

I think getting to the parks before opening is very important during very busy times of the year and even more important during very busy, very hot times of the year. But if you are going to a slow time it is not as much of a priority. BTW, we videotaped the "stampede" to Tower of Tower and Rockin' Roller Coaster last July at MGM. The streets and sidewalks were filled with people running for the rides. It looked like the start of the Boston Marathon! And we are talking adults here, not kids.

We were fortunate enough to ride the Pooh Ride with Pooh, Tigger, and Eeyore one year because we were the first ones on the ride that day. Really magical!!

And we may as well get there early cause my kids aren't gonna sleep late.

Thanks for your info. I'm afraid of looking like a fool running with my family to Soarin. Also another question. How long are the normal lines for Soarin and other popular rides first thing in the morning, and is it better to get in line and get a fastpass at the same time so you can ride it again?

Absolutely grab a Fast Pass and get on stand-by for popular attractions like Soarin' and Test Track. The lines grow long VERY fast. Another option for Test Track that my DS came up with last month was the single rider line. We did this twice early one morning and sat in the same car both times. Unfortunately, the next time we got to TT early they did not open the single rider line for the first hour.

we rode 5 or 6 rides in our first hour at MK - pooh, peter pan, dumbo twice, teacups and buzz

We go to the park at opening everyday and stayed until my kids fell asleep in their stroller (around noon each day) then walked back to CR. One day i returned to the park while they were asleep and was shocked at how much longer the line for buzz was than when we rode it at about 10am.

Don't worry about running - it is so worth it! I totally recommend getting up early. :)

DW (DoomBuggyBabe :drinking1) and I have found that the early magic hours work very well. We will usually plan our days around them, and have had great success getting on the rides. Case in point: during our vacation last year, we hit BTMRR later in the day and it was either a two hour fastpass or a 45 minute wait. At the end of the week we were at Frontierland when the CM's opened the path and even including the stampede, we were able to ride it three times in 20 minutes. So I would definately take advantage of the early extra magic hour and even on off days, get to the parks early.

One other advantage, if you ride Kilimanjaro Safaris early, you'll usually see a lot more animal activity.

Just MHO.

Okay since I've never been to the world would anyone care to share the best fast pass grab (hehehe) for each of the parks when you arrive in the morning??

Thanks

Good question. I'm interested in this as well.

In EPCOT while MS was still in its "soft" opening we grabbed a MS Fast Pass, rode it twice, then used the fast pass to ride a 3rd time.

The same logic would work for MS and Test Track... Grab a Fast Pass, ride the other, then use the fast pass. Early in the morning you don't have to wait long for the fast pass time window to become "active" and you should be able to grab another fast pass while it's still early.

We were there over Spring Break 2005 and found that early EMH at MK were very very good. We were able to do everything we wanted to do (about 13 rides, Philharmagic, 6 characters-including the mouse himself, breakfast and a snack) all by 2pm. Then we went to Epcot. We went to AK for early EMH and I won't do it again, just about everyone runs right back to the Safari so we had to get FPs for that anyway. I don't know about Soarin' because it wasn't open when we were there. We didn't use early hours for MGM or Epcot, but we didn't feel it was necessary. We were at MGM for opening on a non EMH day and that worked out for us very nicely.

As I'm sure others have said, it is sooooooooooo worth getting up early! Yes, people run to the rides. But, even if you don't run, you'll ride more in the first two hours than sometimes you can in the rest of the day. I think being there at opening is most important at MK. It's the best time to be there.

If only I could convince my Dsis and her family of this. They usually roll into the parks around 10 or 11. At that point, we've been on everything we wanted to ride for the day and are thinking of maybe a couple more attractions before lunch and heading back to the resort for swim/rest/nap before our evening at the parks.

Give getting up for opening a try. It's really worth it! Enjoy!

Seeing those running fools makes me so mad! I really wish they'd do more about it considering how grown men run down little kids and elderly without a thought in the world. I think it's just ridiculous. My 9 yo & I just strolled at her slower pace to the rides first thing in the mornings and we ended up being on the same wait with a lot of the runners. And we didn't have to offend or hurt anybody to do it :sad2:
