I'm not a big thrill ride person. I hate the dropping sensation you get on roller coasters and ToT-type drop rides. But, I also feel like I'm missing out having never been on Splash or Space Mountain. :(

How bad is the "drop" sensation on these rides? I've been on log-flume rides at amusement parks, is Splash Mountain a similar kind of drop to something like that? And does Space Mountain have any large drops in it? I don't have problems with speed, sudden turns, or anything like that, and I like Wild Mouse type coasters (and Goofy's Barnstormer :teeth: ) so I think I would be okay on Space Mountain if the drops aren't too large.

Thanks for your help in advance... I only get to visit WDW for 2 days on my trip coming up, so I want to see as much as possible and not end up being a strange shade of green for hours because I rode something I shouldn't have. :(

Hi, I am just like you, maybe worst, they TERRIFY me, but its always just me and my DH so I cant make him go alone and I make myself do it...Splash Mountain is fine, if u can do a log flume youre in..Space Mountain....no major drops and its in pitch black which is the scariest thing (it only travels at 28 mph) Aerosmiths RNR on the other hand is fast and goes upside down (but I actually love this ride so much fun with the music)
In IOA, feel free to go on Hulk, looks real scary but its a piece of cake, I was so mellow on it..HOWEVER avoid DUELING DRAGONS AT ALL COSTS...I never screamed so much or felt so much terror in all my life!!!
Hope that helps, its not fun to miss out on things...make the fear part of the fun, challenge yourself!
HUGS!

IMHO Splash Mountain is no different to any other flume ride. It has two small drops and the final drop is 50 feet or so.

Space Mountain has no big drops, biggest drop I think is 20 feet. It is set in the dark and therefore the 28 mph speed does seem faster. Both rides are brillantly themed and if possible deserve to be experienced at least once.

Sorry, I don't do roller coasters, and never will.
No I don't feel as though i am missing any thing either, cause IMO being so terrified of hights that i might wind up passing out is not my idea of fun.

As said, Space is mostly just small, quick dips and turns, like a Wild Mouse. And I do not find it 'pitch' black, but rather quite dark. Yours eyes adjust to the darkness in a few seconds and you can 'sort of' see ahead, a bit. Fun ride. Splash, like a flume, as said, a few little dips, one bigger one at the end, but still, the buildup is really more than the real dip I think. And the theming is not to be missed. Great music, great theming, super ride.

I say go for it! I was so scared to go on any of the mountains, RnRC or Tot the first couple of times at WDW. Then, the last time I decided that life was too short, and I was going to do it!!!! I LOVED them all.

Okay, Splash still scares me to death, but I'm going back on it!:bounce:

I don't like heights either but none f the attractions at disney give me the same creepy feeling as the first hill of a big coaster, I think mainly because( with the exception of tot) you are never just hanging there out in the open but are surrounded by rocks and stuff. if you look ahead you know it's a drop but from the side it looks ok, not like looking over the edge of a coaster car to the little ant like people below.

I wish I liked the feeling of dropping, but I don't. I have been dragged on coasters when I was younger, even Space Mountain. Since children, I haven't done them. However, my family made me feel like I was missing something by not going on Splash Mountain; they kept saying that I needed to see the "story". Finally, in 1999, I decided to be a sport and go for it. I was so terrified during the entire ride that I couldn't enjoy the story. I opted out of the chicken exit because I wanted to be a sport, but I was soooo sorry about that. I hated the drops, even the smaller one. The Pirates drop is even something I dislike, but I tolerate that one because I love the ride. I just take deep relaxing breaths before it comes.

My advice is don't go unless you plan on chicken-exiting. Sorry

Hey HeyMickey!

I'm the poster child for "coaster-phobic"! Won't go on anything even remotely like a coaster, but I have done the log ride at Great America, so . . .

At our second visit to WDW, I did go on Splash Mountain because I too felt I was missing out, and I must say, it was well-worth the brief moment of fear I felt while plummeting down the waterfall ;) The theming was really cute, and we have the picture to laugh about for years ever after!

Will I do it again? I doubt it, honestly, LOL. But I'm sure glad I did it once! We tackled Dinosaur and Test Track on our last visit (both of which were fine), and this time hope to do Thunder Mountain, at least.

Now the question is, how does Splash Mountain compare to Kali River Rapids?? I'm thinking about trying that one next too:Pinkbounc

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Kali is much milder than the drop on Splash Mountain. Kali should only be avoided if the lines are long or you do not want to get sopping wet. I'll do Space once a trip under duress, Thunder gladly, etc. but won't do ToT (my 8yo did it with his cousin, and while not traumatized didn't want to go again, DH same). Splash scares me, but I do it with my kids because the show is so wonderful. Over the years I have even managed to learn to keep my eyes open at the end. The other drops inside all are much worse in anticipation than actuality. The last drop is over quickly and does not get my stomach. A couple rides on RnRC were enough. This one leaves me pretty shaken. But none of these rides give you a gut wrenching drop. I would never ride a regular roller coaster, I'm 50 and a real wimp and prone to motion sickness, put me on the back of a bus and I kack.

double post sorry, can't delete for some reason

Thanks, abitjaded, for the info about Kali. :D

We're going in February, so I guess it will have to depend on the weather. As long as I know the drops are mild, it'll make my list of things to do!

I hate coasters, too. The long ride up a coaster makes me want to jump off in a blind panic. But I love SplashMt--it's my favorite ride at Disney. The drop goes quick, and it's not that steep. It's worth it because the story, the visuals, and sounds are the height of Disney art. It's truly the best ride in WDW. I never miss it.

I did ToT for the kids. That's not too bad, but I don't really like it. At least there's no long ride up where you can see for hundreds of feet below before you fall like a rock. The special effects are pretty amazing, but I get a bit of an anxiety attack just thinking about the drop this is coming up. Breath deep....I can miss that one.

I'm trying to work up the courage for RnR for our next trip. That one has shoulder restraints which is very appealing to me. I feel that they hold you in better. Plus, I've heard it's so fast you never have time to get scared. We'll see. I'd really like to try that one.

OH, I feel your pain. Everyone in my family and extended family knows I hate drops, but they constantly try to get me on rides. It really makes me angry at times. If I don't like it, why do they want to force me?

The first year I went, I was excited that I survived Dumbo and teacups- I mean I was relieved because at first my DD almost chickened out of Dumbo, but she changed her mind...but now I like it too. After teacups, I was so excited I was upset they didn't have an I survived the teacups shirt- I would have wore it proudly. Ever since then, I ride something new on every trip. My brother and DH buy me a token of the event. The second year I earned a Dinosaur lanyard w/my name - great ride, no drops, one of my favorites, I also got a Splash Mountain pin- now, I freaked out on that one and can't remember even seeing or hearing any sort of theme. The last drop was over really quick...but I haven't tried it again since. I want to this year though. You will love Kali. I get a little nervous on the Pirates of Carribean, but Kali is a lot of fun and you really don't even feel the drop on that one.

This year, I plan to do Mission Space and Test track. I also plan to do the Goofy coaster, because last year I chickened out of it BIG TIME. Its soooo embarassing......

Another coaster chicken here!!! That being said, I can now proudly say that I have done all the attractions at WDW!!! I love RnRC. Just wish I could convince my dd, 10, that it's really terrific. But that upside-down thing is really bothering her. It is no big deal.
Do I like Splash Mt.?? Well, no. Do I do it every visit?? Yes! I think I have finally overcome my huge fear of this ride. I was leaning forward on that last drop in my previous rides. Last time, I pushed back, into my seat and it was much better.
As for Space Mt., my dd said she wanted to conquer her fear of it so she rode it on our last night last month. She loved it!!! It's really a Wild Mouse in the dark.
I did ToT this trip also. Loved it!!! Can't say dd was as happy with it tho.
I don't think any of the coasters at WDW are really too bad. Give them a shot.
