Question for Christian Disney parents

I know, the questions kids come up with! They must be thinking deeper than me! I can't even get the kitchen floored cleaned much less answer philosophical questions!

Like I said, the magic of Disney and wishing on a star has NEVER bothered me in my whole life and still doesn't. I just didn't know how to answer. Now I just say "It's for fun now go and play!!!":lmao:

Mostly my child that questions this is my boy on the autism spectrum. He's very literal and lacks imagination. That is probably most of the problem. He's coming along, though, he has to in this Disney loving family!:lovestruc

Thanks again for everyone's input. I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone or make problems. I just needed a little help and pixie dust!

I think telling people that they are or are not Christian based on what YOU believe that to be is the most offensive thing I see done around here and completely out of line.

I don't see anyone doing this on this thread. In fact people are only sharing their own personal experiences and advice which was asked for. No one is out of line.

Now, I am not saying my answer is the official English Language, but it is the best answer for our very conservative Christian family.

We tell the kids that the word Magic is a homonym.

Take the word skate for example. One use of the word refers to a fish and the other refers to gliding around on shoes outfitted with wheels or a blade. They sound the same and are spelled the same, but they are different words.

Fluke is another example. It an refer to split part of a whale's tail or an unexptected happening.

In the Disney realm the word Magic refers to the wonder, beauty, and incredible imagination founded by Walt and carried on by Mickey and all his helpers.:wizard:

Around our house we often call it Mickey Magic and use it to describe special effects in movies, color change ink, and slight of hand card tricks, also known as magic tricks as well as Disney itself.

In the Biblical realm it refers to gaining power from an evil source, the devil, which is NOT what is happening in Disney.

Our kids have never been confused and I feel like the distinction we make is not a word game but a very real difference in substance.

I hope that helps.

This is exactly how we adress the subject (as I noted in previous posts on this thread), it's a word and the meaning depends on how you define it. Your response is exactly what the OP was asking for! Well said!:cheer2:

Yes, it was what I was looking for! Thank you! With all the great responses I feel aimed and ready for any question they ask me now! Thanks, again!:thumbsup2

It was stated that if you are a Christian then you must believe..... and that this is a fact. I am a Christian and my beliefs are different.

It was stated that if you are a Christian then you must believe..... and that this is a fact. I am a Christian and my beliefs are different.

And when others pointed out that not everyone takes the Bible literally, those comments were understood, and the give-and-take of conversation continued in a civilized manner. Nobody treated anyone poorly IMO.

I'm sorry..but you misunderstood my context..or perhaps I did not word it correctly.

That was me so I feel I must defend my statement.

When I said "if you're a christian then you must believe that the Bible is the word of God"...what I meant was, Christians..as a whole...ie: christianity...go by the Bible..just like other religions have their other books..no??? It was meant to be a general statement. There are references to it (magic/sorcery/witchcraft etc) in the Bible and that's where *some* christians get their beliefs that magic is bad bad bad. You said you never heard of that before, and all I was trying to do was point out where some people get that belief from.

it was NOT any kind of personal attack at YOU or anyone else and it was NOT telling anyone that if they don't believe this way, then they are not a Christian. Christianity as a whole does indeed believe in the Holy Bible..whether some literally, figuratively...etc

If you could have heard me SAYING it out loud face to face, rather than just reading the written word, nobody here ever would have thought a second thing about it because you would have heard the tone and manner in which it was meant. Try to re-read the sentence and understand the way it was intended to come out.

Good grief. Why can't we all just take a chill pill and not be so quick to take offense to every single thing? It was never meant that way at all and I'm really sorry if I offended anyone. I truly did not mean to!

I'll be sure to be more careful to walk on eggshells in the future.

oh..and, by the way, you misquoted me..because the "this is a fact" part had to do with the FACT that the Bible has references to magic in it...nothing to do with my personal beliefs. Whether you, I or the Pope believe it..makes no difference. All of the major translations do have the references to it.

We have already established that the type of "magic (sorcery/witchcraft etc)" references are not the same as the kind of magic we all talk about here on a day to day basis.:)

I now understand what you were trying to say, :goodvibes

Well hallejuliah!!! Thank you! LOL

I feel horrible! I've been reading and re-reading what I wrote, fully knowing MY tone because, well, I wrote it...and trying to understand why and how someone else isn't getting that it wasn't meant to be anything other than civil discussion or just trying to point out why some others believe a certain way. I don't necessarily agree with it..I just was saying why.

Thanks!:flower3:

If it makes you feel better I understood your tone from the beginning.:)

I'm glad everyone is feeling better now!:goodvibes I was feeling bad myself because I started the thread!

I learned a lot and thank everyone for their input and guidance!

I'm sorry, but what is the technical difference between walking on water and other tales in the Bible and "magic"?

Also, if God made the stars, why can't you wish on them as an extension of Him?
