Rumours over here that George Gillette is thinking of buying Liverpool Football Club. Just wondering what kind of man he is with regards to sport, mainly how much investment has he made into your team and has he put up admission prices to claw some money back?

I too have a question for Canadien fans: Why? :confused3

Football teams can be bought fairly cheap and you can get a decent return from them if they are run correctly. Malcolm Glazer, Tampa Bay Buccaneers owner, bought Manchester United for around £800 million, but did this by borrowing against the team, stadium etc, effectively putting the clubs future in jeopardy should the team start failing (which I only hope they will). Now Liverpool won't cost anywhere near this amount as it is controlled in effect by one man and not shareholders, so it's just down to offering the right price to the current owner, but if Gillette is another Glazer, I'd rather he kept himself on your side of the Atlantic.

No, I was making a joke. I was asking Canadien fans why they are Canadien fans, following it up with the Maple Leafs logo indicating that that's the better team. Obviously, it wasn't all that funny. I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

1967 baby 1967.

Gillette seems to be one of the better owners. While he is definitely in charge, he has surrounded himself with good hockey people and allows them to do their jobs.

PS- Why do people in Toronto drink their beer from the bottle?

Cuz all the cups are in Montreal. WOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cool1: :cheer2: :joker:

I too have asked this question many many times and have no explanation. Oh Sure they've won a Stanley Cup or 20 but you actually have to cheer for them. I don't think that is worth it no matter what the upside is. They are a poor misguided group who cannot see the error of their ways. :stir: :stir:

Now that's what I'm talking about! *stir, stir* :)

AHHH the deluded "fans" of the team from the centre of the universe. I do have to admire the masochistic perseverence of any Leaf fan under the age of 30 as they have never actually seen them win anything of consequence.

Got to give you credit, thats pretty funny, but my dh always says that his favourite team is the Leafs and anyone who plays the Habs. :goodvibes

Love the cup joke, John! I'll have to tell my dad that one. He is a Leafs fan and I am the Habs fan.

To the OP. Gillette is a good owner. He has put some money back in to the team and hired some smart hockey people to right the ship. They don't seem to waste their money on over-the-hill, injury-prone players like that ferguson guy does in the self-proclaimed center of the universe.

PS: Habs defeat the make beliefs in the shoot-out. You would think a two goal lead would have been enough for those old guys. I guess their legs must have given out.
