Looking at all these DISigns got me very excited and I requested a few DISigns. I felt bad asking for so many so I decided to get PSE 10 and try it myself. Watching /reading tutorials has helped and I can do name fills and I'm getting a grasp on layers. I can't figure out Millie's DISigns. Can someone please tell me how she does this:

I've been trying to figure it out to no avail. It's kind of like a fill but parts of the characters extend outside of the letters. I can't just layer it because then the characters are simply on top of the letter.....like Daisy in the "O".

If someone could help me with this I'd be so very grateful. Trying to find a tutorial for this was difficult. TIA

This is probably what she has done... Duplicate the character and have one inside the letters and one outside the letters. The one that is outside the letters, you will want to erase all areas that you do not want to be popping out.

I hope this helps get you started.

Maybe Millie will come by and say how she truly does it but by looking at it, that is how I would attain that.

You need to have 3 layers, 2 of the character(s) and one of the name. Place both character layers on top of the name layer. Clip the lower character layer in to the name layer by hovering the mouse on the line between the 2 layers while holding down the alt key. On the top layer erase the parts of the character you want to be behind/inside the letter.

Same thing but explained much better - thanks Dom!

you should also take a look at the Create Clipping Mask feature under Layer menu. I use this rather than the hover/select between layers method and it works great ! this is what I use to get an image imbedded into a Mickey head. Mickey head on bottom and graphic above it. pick the top layer and Create Clipping Mask

Amy - Thanks.

Marion - I tend to use the mouse to do as much as possible. The menu option may be a little easier as some times it's difficult to position the mouse just right (you also don't have to use the alt key). Thanks for pointing out that option.

I got it!! Thanks so much Amy, Dom, and Marion!

Oh darn.....I just noticed that Cinderella's dress is a bit off and part of it is in the letter L. Oh well, still learning...

Great job!! I too bought PSE 10 but I am still totally lost. May I ask what font you used for the name fill? It is a pretty font.

Anybody know of tutorials/steps on how to do the Name fills and the Mickey ears? I can use ANY AND ALL help!! Thanks.

The font is SF Fedora. I just downloaded tons of fonts and I keep trying different ones until I find one I like. The tutorials are great. I only downloaded the 30 day trial of PSE 10 and I still have 17 days left. That's how fast you can learn this with tutorials. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will definitely check this out as I too, am learning.

Thanks everyone for ALL the help and suggestions. Have been sick and haven't had time to check out the sites yet but wanted to say THANKS.

Is there one on how to do the Mickey Ears?

You guys are the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!

the Elements Village forum is about techniques for PSE. Most of the stuff you can learn is universal but the focus is mainly on photos...it definitely isn't about any HOW TOs on specifics (like MM ears) that we talk about here.

Wish there was tutorials for things done on here that we all love using Photoshop Elements 10. At least it is fun trying to figure out how to do things. I am not having much success right now but NOT giving up!!
