Question for 2005 unofficial guide owners

OK here's my dilemma. Our trip to Disney is Mar 2-6. I hear the updated UG will not come out till mid or late Feb. In the meantime, I need to figure out what we are doing so that I can make the most of this short 3.5 day trip, especially to make PS ressies etc. Since the 2005 guide doesn't take into account the evening extra magic hours (which we would definitely like to take advantage of since it's such a short trip), is it still worth buying the current book for the touring plans that are in there? With so much info out there, I already feel like I am running out of time to plan this!! Help!

Forgive me, but I'm confused here. I've had the 2005 Unofficial Guide since December. I know the 2005 Passporter comes out in mid-February, though .. is that what you're reffering to ?

Yes, the updated 2005 UG is supposed to come out in mid Feb with all the new ticket prices and extra magic hours. I understand the old 2005s don't have that information. I am wondering whether the touring plans in the one that you have would still apply if I am trying to take advantage of the extra magic hours (especially the evening ones.)

Oooh ... there's an update 2005? I didn't know that .. D'oh! Me thinks me just wasted money. :0(

I know that somewhere online they post any updates currently available. Check in your book and they should have a web address to go to. I have a 2005 edition somewhere with all my Disney stuff.....can only find the 2004 edition. Maybe someone here has they web address. ::MinnieMo

Len Testa posts on these boards. He's one of the contributing authors of the UG. If you need a question answered try doing a member search for him.

I bought the 2005 guide on Amazon.com 2 weeks ago though I have my ressies made and everything pretty much set, I have found that this book has LOTS of great tips (especially for a first timer like us). I have become obsessed with our disney trip and have searched websites constantly. I have also read both Frodors and Frommers 2005 books and like the unofficial guide even more than both of these.

I don't think it would be a waste of your money.

Oh, don't get me wrong. My fiance` and I are making our first trip there (and honeymoon) in April for a few weeks. This book has been GREAT to help us know what is what and what is where and whatnot. But having the "absolute newest" book on-hand while we're there is a good thing as well. Saves from having to print all the updates on the site and tape them to the inside of the book. ;)

The fact that there are new EMH doesn't impact the actual touring plans in UG, as far as I am concerned. For one thing, on touringplans.com the UG folks still say that avoiding EMH is a good idea even for resort guests.

On the other hand, since your trip is short, you will likely want to participate in EMH. A plan they recommend on the website is doing the EMH morning at one park, then parkhopping to a less crowded park mid to late morning, where you can just pick up one of the touring plans in their book. I have been looking for feedback on evening EMH on the DIS but have seen little. Maybe you could do a search?

I think (?) the UG is printed a 2-3 times each year with updates. It is just that this year the updates are more substantial than in the past, due to MYW and the new EMH. But the book is 800 pages long and I have not found that it is useless even though I am aware parts of it no longer apply.

We are getting to be pros at touring the first week of March. That is when we take our annual trip and we will be there this year as well. We have found the crowds to be low to moderate. We have found Epcot deserted the first half of the day, for example. And viewing Spectro at MK has been a breeze. Send me a PM and I may be able to offer some more advice.

Good luck!

Fyreworks, thanks for reading the Guide. We've never provided evening-only touring plans in the Guide, due to space considerations. However, we'll be posting some to the website very soon. If there's a particular park or set of attractions you'd like to see, drop me a line (len@touringplans.com) and we'll see what we can do.

Regarding the morning EMHs and the plans, the plans should still work as described in the book. To the best of my knowledge, the morning attractions haven't changed, so any plan that would have worked with EMH when the book was published, still does.

Sincerely,

Len
