Hi, I am new to the forum. I am from the UK and am planning to get married at Disney in May 2012. I am still at the early stages and trying to decide between an Escape and Wishes wedding. I want to have a reception at the Whitehall Room at GF. Can I pair this with an Escape wedding? I read somewhere that there is a time limit on how long you can have the room for? Does this apply to a Wishes wedding as well? I was hoping to have the meal at about 5 and then stay on to watch Wishes from the patio?
Any help much appreciated. x

Hi!

Welcome to the forum!

Yes you can add a reception to an Escape wedding. I was originally an Escape wedding and planning to do the same thing using the Whitehall Room. When you do this though there is currently a $7500 minimum spend then required, the cost of the Escape pakage goes towards that minimum spend. The time limit if I remember correctly is 2 hours for an Escape reception vs. 4 hours for a Wishes wedding reception (correct me someone if I am wrong). I eventually switched from an Escape to a Wishes wedding as I was going to hit the Wishes minimum anyway.

There are other options for a function after an Escape wedding and many brides have reported great sucess with holding a dinner after their ceremonies at one of the great restuarants or a wishes fireworks cruise.

What I would stongly recomend is making the small investment to purchase the Passporters Disney Weddings and Honeymoon's e-book. It is written by LurkyLoo on the Disboards here. It should cost about 8 or 9 British pounds. As it is an e-book you can download it instantly and also get free updates when something changes. It will explain a lot of the options and differences between the types of weddings. Here is the link: http://www.passporter.com/weddings.asp

Thanks for that, I have already bought the Passporters book but am still slowly working my way through it!

I would probably want the room for about 5-6 hours, is there any way I can pay for extra do you know?

I've just been speaking with our sales consultant about adding a reception to an escape wedding. The standard time is 2 hours as Brit Jude mentioned, however I've been told that it might be possible to extend it to three hours (I think that might be location dependant but I'm not sure). We are also thinking about adding on a dessert party which would add another 1 hr 30 mins.

There is a bride here that mentioned she was an Escape bride and was allowed a three hour reception.

...and just a note to the OP if you have an Escape then a reception and maybe a dessert party you could probably hit the Wishes minimum and that could lead into being your deciding factor...
