Question Before Applying: QSFB??

Hey Guys!

So I plan on watching the e-presentation/applying this weekend! I have a question about roles...

I know I'm going to check several roles that I would be willing to do, but I'm not 100% sure on QSFB. My top two choices are Attractions and Character Attendant, but I really wouldn't mind doing some other roles, such as custodial, merchandise, or full service FB (I was a hostess at a restaurant over the summer). I've read on here that QSFB has a lot of spots to be filled. Does that mean that out of all of my choices, I'm more than likely to get this? Even if I put Attractions and Character Attendant as my top choices?

How is QSFB? I've heard people say to not choose this one if you're not sure if you would be willing to do it, since a lot of CPs get placed in it. For all you previous QSFB CMs, did you seem to enjoy it? Would I be happy if I end up getting placed in this position?

Would selecting QSFB greatly increase my chances to get in? (I really want to do the CP this fall). Or will my chances still be good if I don't, granted that my interview goes great and I apply in the next couple of weeks?

Checking off QSFB would greatly increase your chances of getting accepted into the program. That is why they usually ask you during the interview if you are willing to do that role along with Custodial. A lot of CPs get put into QSFB because that is where they have the most positions opened and where they have a lot of people working. They do have more food stands/ restaurants than rides/ shows in the parks.

In my first program, I was picked for QSFB and worked in Outdoor Food at Animal Kingdom Park. It was interesting! To start off, there are two areas in QSFB: Outdoor Food and Counter Service. Counter service is the restaurants scatter throughout Disney where you go to a register and order your food first then pick it up at the counter when it's done. In counter service, you will only get assigned to one restaurant, but they will switch you around every couple of hours, so like for example, you can be filling up drinks, then get switch to register, and so on. On the other hand, if you get picked for outdoor food, you will be working all over the park! Outdoor food is in charged of the ice cream carts and snack stands located throughout the park. The snack stands are the ones that sell popcorn, pretzels, churros, chips, etc.

They are both tough jobs and if placed in QSFB, you will be working a lot of hours because QSFB is famous for the long shifts, but it's a lot of fun at the same time. I got to meet a lot of people and had a lot of guest interaction and it was so cute seeing little kids faces light up when I hand them their Mickey Ice Cream bars. Their are going to be days where you just feel like giving up, but it's like that in every job! I hope this was helpful and Good luck!

Yes this is very helpful thanks for the response! Now I have a couple of questions based off of your post.

Should I go ahead and mark QSFB on the application, but during the interview when they ask what my top choices are, should I mention that this is lower on the list but I will do it if it means getting in the program? Or would this not be appropriate? Would it be better to not mark it, and when (they do ask you, right?) they ask me if I would be willing to do QSFB I should say it's not my top choice but I will if it means getting in?

Should I not say anything like "if it means getting in," or is this okay, since it's true. I would be honest in saying that it's not my top choice but I would definitely do it since I want to do the program so badly.

Would I be able to say to them that I would want to work at the assorted stands throughout the parks instead of one CS restaurant? I feel like I would enjoy this more since you get to be outside and seeing/working at different places during the program.

I did QSFB I was in a restaurant, honestly it's not the most fun job in the world but it wasn't terrible either. It was hard work but I loved my coworkers, my managers and even the guests. I think like any role a lot of it is what you make of it. If you tell the interviewer you'll do QSFB they is a VERY strong chance that that will be exactly what they place you in.

I did QSFB on my program in Spring 2008. I really enjoyed it, but it is a lot of hard work! The hours are long and the work can be difficult, but it can also be a lot of fun! I met some of my best friends at my location and am still seasonal there. Is it my dream job? No. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat! I honestly don't remember where I ranked it on my application, but I think my willingness to do it did help, though. Also, that's where my previous experience was at my interview time. Maybe since you have experience as a hostess that could work to your advantage. Good luck! It is truly a great program and no matter where you get placed, you will love it!

Friend of mine was in QSFB and he like it a lot from what I could tell. He was going to go seasonal in QSFB but got offered a PT job in Custodial. But if you think you won't like it don't apply for it because even if it's not in your "top" picks they can still place you there. If you check it they assume you want to or would be willing to do it!

I said I'd do it in my phone interview and got placed in Merchandise. So it doesn't necessarily mean you'll be placed there but yes, the chances you will be are high.
Having been here for a year now I can say that I would never....ever...willingly work QSFB....

my friend is there now, doing her first week of qsfb. she called me crying after a long work day and says she regrets agreeing to do it when she knew she didn't want to. i sincerely doubt that many people get rejected from the dcp (the only person who i knew who did didn't make it passed the web interview so he just did it again for the same program and he's there now, sooo...). i think you're better off asking for a job you're genuinely interested in than faking it just for the sake of getting in.

Just to throw in my two cents here, really pay attention to what people say about their past experiences. From what I can tell, this is either a love it or hate it job. I've heard that people have made amazing friends in this role, and read about others who left early because they hated it. There were people in my app group that said that they would be willing to work any job just to work at Disney, and then were upset because they got placed somewhere that wasn't in their top 3 (like qsfb or custodial). I will also say that there were 6 of us who were pending FOREVER that became pretty close, and not all of us got accepted for Spring 2011, so there are quite a few people who get rejected. CALM DOWN! I'm not saying that to scare people, I just wanted to counter the previous post about them thinking not many people get rejected. I know of quite a few who were pending up until the last minute and they didn't get in.
In short: Do what you will love!! You guys are going to be there when it's like a million degrees in the summer (if you do early arrival) so make sure you know you're going to have fun doing it! I haven't even arrived yet (check in on monday!!) and already people are self-terming from the spring group because it's not what they expected. And good luck!

My daughter is doing her first week of QSFB. She wasn't thrilled when she was assigned to QSFB but over time became excited. Now she is loving it. She really is living the dream.

My son worked 5 years at an Amphitheater (concerts like: Toby Keith, Billy Joel, Warp Tour, etc). He put down Attractions, QSFB, Merchandise, etc
I thought with his experience with crowd control he would end up in attractions (thinking of all the shows) He got accepted to QSFB 5 days after the interview.

My daughter did not even list QSFB as one of her choices but during her interview she was asked if she would consider that role based on her previous work experience (Culver's) and although she was hesitant, she said that she would be willing to do that role as well. She was accepted to QSFB for the fall program.

That said, she didn't hate it or love it. She loved all the people she met, she was lucky enough to get a location at a resort and she was also deployed to other resorts. She would have preferred another role but made the best of what she was assigned. When it came time to extend, she did not put that down as a choice and was fortunately assigned to Character Performer which is what she is doing now. In fact her other roommates that were also in QSFB all extended to a different role.

If she had to do it over again, I think she would have been a bit more upfront and let them know that while she did have the experience for QSFB, she would prefer to try something new.

If you do not think you will like it at all, then I would suggest that you tell them that during the interview. I don't think it will hurt any chance of getting accepted into the program and I can't say that it would help either.

When I did my last program I think I applied for about 6 or 7 roles. Mainly because I checked off Hopper, which requires you to also check off attractions, merch, QSFB, main entrance opps etc. I had been working in a fast food restaurant for about 10 months before applying, with some other jobs mixed in as well. I thought that experience would make my chances for getting QSFB very high, but since I worked that type of job before I knew I could handle it.

I ended up getting accepted for Attractions 2 weeks after my interview.

I interview tomorrow for my second program and QSFB is also on my role checklist again. Really it is all about attitude. No matter what job you get it can be great. The big thing is if you think you will hate something don't check it off just to increase chances of getting accepted even though you don't really want to do it.

I know I would be fine doing QSFB, like I'm outgoing and can have fun with anyone so I'm sure I would still easily have a great time down there. But my top choices are still Attractions and Character Attendant.

I've had a kick of anxiety lately because I don't know what to do! I want to mark it because I want to get in the program so so badly. I will be devastated if I end up not getting in if I didn't mark it! But at the same time, I REALLY want one of the other positions. I've been waiting to do this program for several years, I don't want to screw it up in any way.

So I think I'll mark QSFB and during my interview when they ask what my top choices are I'll say them, and then mention that QSFB is lower on the list? Or would it be better to not mark it and when they ask if I'd be okay doing it that I would but it's not my top choice?

I wouldn't mark it unless you are 100% completely okay with doing that role. Remember, you'll be spending 3-6 months working this job and with so many choices why not do what you want? If they ask in the interview you could say, sure I'll do QSFB, but Attractions and Character Attendant are my top choices and then give some reasons those two will be more helpful in your future than QSFB. Remember, you should interview them as much as they interview you!

Saying it's not high on your list isn't going to affect anything. All they see is that big check mark next to it.
