Last night I had this really amazing German beer, called Atventinus Eisbock, at a local German restaurant. I'm wondering if they have the same beer in Germany at Epcot, and if it is available at the CS location there (Sommerfest), or at Biergarten. Dh, the boys and I will be eating at Biergarten one evening for dinner, but my parents and sister will not be joining us for that meal and they are wondering if they sell this beer at Sommerfest so they can enjoy it there as well.

Does anyone have a beer list from Germany at Epcot that they can post? On the All Ears site, the Sommerfest menu only states that they carry German beers for $7.50 each, and the Biergarten menu on the site does not contain a beer list. Thanks!

Don't think so. They sell Spaten Optimator at Sommerfest. Biergarten has it and also Hefewiesen. Outside at the beer cart they sell Beck's. Pretty sure there isn't anything like you mentioned.

Thanks for letting me know. Do you know how the Spaten Optimator is?

Spaten Optimator is the best beer available in Germany - it's dark with a full body; a very enjoyable beer. Who would have thought that inebriated stranger we met at the beer cart in Epcot who was wearing the silly lederhosen t-shirt would be so right about a beer? :lmao:

I like Spaten Optimator, especially if I imagine Arnold Schwarzenegger saying it.

The hefewiesen is good too. They have some of the best beer you can find at Disney World. I'm going there in a week and a half just for the beer (I guess I'll have to eat too)

LOL, try a pretzel with your German beer!

I may just have to try both of those beers when I go! I guess I'll force myself. ;)

No, they do not serve that beer.

The best beer you can get in german is the Frazinkaner (?spelling).
It is at the quick serve in the biergarten. Not on the menu...but the bottle stands on the little ordering counter and it is for sale.

DAMN! If we'd known that was back there we'd have dumped the Spaten! :rotfl2:

OK, so that's now 3 German beers I have to try! Good thing we have 3 days at Epcot...one for beer, one for liquor and one for wine!! :lmao:

the Frazinkaner (?spelling).

The correct name is Franziskaner (means Franciscans, it was brewed by Franciscan monks) and I suspect it is the Hefeweizen TDCNala recommended. Franziskaner is known for their wheat beer. By the way, Becks, Spaten, Franziskaner and Löwenbräu are all brands owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev.

I did some research, can it poosibly be the Aventinus Eisbock you had: http://schneider-weisse.de/index.ph....eisbock&sid=80023160272613325136726930057008

It has 12% alcohol! :scared1: The brewery Private Weißbierbrauerei G. Schneider & Sohn is well known for really good wheat beers, most wheat beer lovers I know say that their main product Schneider Weisse is one of the best Hefeweizen available in Germany. It is still privately owned and independent.

Personally I think it is a bit sad the at the German pavillion they only offer beer from the huge industrial brewers. Especially in Bavaria there are still lots of independent breweries which produce excellent beers.

Thanks for letting me know. Do you know how the Spaten Optimator is?

As stated, they do not have any Eisbock (including Aventinus). But Optimator is a Doppelbock, which is fairly close, and it's delicious. It's my response to anyone who says they "don't like dark beer" when talking about Guiness or any stouts and Porters because Optimator is rich and sweet, ( a lot like Aventinus Eisbock ).

Enjoy! and Cheer!

I had a Spaten about 2 week ago and it was quite the tastey brew, but with the Food and Wine Fest. going on I only had one Spaten and many others.:drinking1

It's so funny that you say that...my sister's BF told all of us that the Aventinus Eisbock was the best German beer he ever had (and he loves his beer and has excellent taste). So we ordered a round, and when I first saw it, I turned to my DH and said, "oh, that's too dark for me." Well, DH tasted it, and said, "no it's not, just taste it, trust me." And it was the best darn beer I ever drank! I will definitely have to try the Optimator.

Where do you get the German Beer Flight?

DH and I had the beer flight at Biergarten back in July 2008, but I couldn't remember what was in it. I do know I enjoyed all the beers in the beer flight.

Usually the beer flights are inside the dining room ordered with your buffet meals.

Without getting TOO technical, Stouts and porters are dark because of roasted grains. so, like coffee, they are more bitter and "roasty" tasting. Whereas dark beers like Doppelbocks ( and Eisbocks ) might have some lightly roasted or grains that are "dehusked". This means that the grain was roasted OR toasted for color, but the bitter husk was removed. Also, the germans in general tend to use "noble" hops, which have less bittering acids to bring to the brew and since bocks are fairly strong alcohol, the maltiness takes over and you taste that a lot more than you would the bitterness imparted by hops.

:rolleyes1
