Why is there a link to this board in the old article Pete Werner wrote about Gay Days? Controversial as it is, there doesn't seem to be much sense in linking from it to here.

I've always wondered what year that article is supposed to represent as we've gone for years, and have never seen what that article claims to be happening at the parks. :confused3

So, other than being the owner's perogative, what purpose does it serve to bash Gay Days and then link to this board?

Are we supposed to correct the notions expressed in that article? :confused3

Any insight would be appreciated.

I for one would like to see that article zapped for good!

I could take a camera to the Magic Kingdom next Saturday and prove his point.

I could also take a camera to the same place and disprove his point.

The whole event is in the eye of the beholder if you ask me...

Family and friends, yep lots of that!

Drugs and partying, yep, some of that too!

Just like Grad Night and Night of Joy! :confused3

Hmmmm...

You make a good point. Not all aspects of the article are patently untrue, however it's really hard to believe it's written by someone who attends with any real frequency.

So! Perhaps we need to do our own articles on this board, from our experiences. If each of us wrote of our experiences... might help, eh?

I once saw a young woman dressed in unrelieved black, being led around by a man dressed in the same manner, by a chain strung from the collar on her neck to his wrist. That was in MK. So, am I to assume MK is a place for Goth S/M couples? :confused3

Opinions and all that, eh? :confused3

Thanks O'Mike. I was hoping that my posting the question wouldn't make problems for you.

Why don't they get rid of it and
just let people draw their own conclusions?
:confused3

I've always wanted to write Pete on the podcast ask him to review is opinion. Maybe I'll get the courage and do it soon.

I don't know who this Pete guy is, but I'm getting the feeling I shouldn't Google him.

Pete Werner is the owner and founder of the DIS. He also does a weekly podcast and has tons of followers.

I have to say, that the article in question does not describe anything like the Gay Days experiences I've ever had.

I think it's a bit misleading, too. The talk of drug use etc makes it sound like people are openly using controlled substances at the Magic Kingdom. Yeah, I've seen some people suffering from the effects of their own doing at Beach Ball the one time I went, but never at the parks themselves. (well except that several people were hung over, us included). It's not like children are being exposed to the drug use or other things that happen at the parties.

My experience in the parks has always been very positive, and while there is always a small percentage that are inappropriate, the crowd as a whole is very well behaved. And I'd say the percentage of people who are inappropriate on Gay Day is much less than the percentage of inappropriate behavior/dress than I see from straight folks at the Magic Kigdom throughout the rest of the year.

We don't judge all straight people by the actions of those few, why do people always assume that all gay people will be judged by the actions of our "embarassing family members"?

You'd think they'd get heat exhaustion and sun stroke from all that black. Those outfits just scream "notice us! We think we're cool!!" Chuckle and them ignore them...

Good points, all. ::yes::

I was thinking about that last night, Rob. I've seen loads of inappropriate behavior and down right nasty sayings on t-shirts from groups that were not identified with being gay. Teens get bashed quite a bit, and of course the Brazilians always get whapped around, but those Night of Joy folks are the ones who have the CMs calling it Night of Hell.

I have never, at any time seen anyone use any sort of illegal substance on WDW property. It may be there, but I'm not seeing it.

Everyone has the ability to air her or his opinion. Yep. That is truer than true. Sometimes though, it might be a good idea for people who command much attention by simple virtue of who they are, to recognize that they have a responsibility to an entity greater than her or himself. :confused3

We've decided this morning that we'll be in MK on Saturday. I'm actually going to try and track down a sleeveless red shirt. ::yes:: My wife already has one.

So, if you see two delightfully mature :rotfl: women in red, one with an HRC sticker smack in the middle of her t-shirt, that will be us.

See you all there!

Knox (CanadianGuy) called him out on it a few years ago. For the past 2 years Knox tried to get Pete to come with us to the park, but he wont. He said he hasn't been and has no urge to go, and it sounds like he pretty much based his article on rumors he'd heard rather than first-hand experiences.

I've met Pete a few times, as well as his partner, and they are great guys. That article is one thing I don't like him for though.

Wait a sec. He's never been, yet writes an article like that? Wow.

Really? Is it really as bad as Night of Joy? I've been to GD once (3 years ago now) and have seen no evidence of inappropriate behavior at the theme parks. I've never been to a grad night of "night of joy" but have heard some real horror stories. Is GD really as bad as that for cast members??

Oh heck no! Cast Members beg to work on Gay Days! It's always a blast to actually be treated nice for a whole shift! The partying usually is at the hotels over on Hotel Plaza Blvd.

The parks are always full of well behaved and very fun, and entertaining guests.

Got it. Thanks for the confirmation. The one time we went, we didn't do any of the events (still kicking myself for not seeing Kathy Griffin) so haven't seen what happens at the event hotel.

I even work with one guy...who swears up and down he is not gay..:rolleyes1..who is getting a hair cut and all new costumes for the week! :rotfl2:

We were at the host hotel one year at the merchandise booths (during the day). There were loads of little boys running around in very little speedos having a grand time in and out of the pool. LOL. There was definitely drinking going on, but still even then didn't see anything illicit. It was during the day, mind.

We may stop by again this year. The merchandise booths are supposed to be bigger, better, more this year. :teeth:
