Question and Child Menus

I'll be traveling to DL with my 10 year old DD. Obviously since she is no longer 9, she is now considered an 'adult' at Disney. As such, we'll be paying for a full adult park ticket for her.

However, she's still somewhat picky in her food tastes, and still loves 'kid' things. Will we be able to order from the child menus at the restaurants? While she'll likely have an adult Monte Cristo at Cafe Orleans, I know she'd be disappointed if she couldn't have make-your own peanut butter sandwich at Carnation Cafe, and our WOC lunch menu at Wine Country Trattoria probably won't be very appealing to her unless she's allowed to order from the child selections. So... do they 'card' or question if you order from the kids menu for a 10 year old?

Not a problem. If its a price fixed meal like Ariels, they will still charge for the adult price but if she wants something off the kids menu instead, they'll bring an adult size portion for her.

I'm not suggesting that you lie, but if they don't ask then there is no harm in ordering from the children's menu, with a child's portion size.

I remember reading a thread elsewhere where someone said a child (who was under 9) was questioned about their age because they looked over 9 and had a children's ticket but they looked older - so ID was needed but their parent didn't have ID with a DOB etc...

My younger sister was 12 at our last visit and whilst she doesn't look under 9, she was able to buy children's meals easily without any questions asked, so I guess all I'm trying to say is there is no harm in trying to get the children's meal (not in the adult size, unless she wants more food) and if they ask for ID then apologise and ask for it in an adults portion.

They can ask your childs age but they can't require you to have proof.

I wouldn't worry about it. A few months ago I was in DL with my 11 year old son (who is 5' 4" -- so very obviously looked older than 9 years) and he ordered off the child's menu at Carnation Cafe just fine. We were asked by our server if he would like a child's menu or adult menu. At Cafe Orleans I asked for a child's menu for him and was given one -- no questions asked. He ended up ordering off the adult menu. We didn't find it to be an issue at either of those places.

My 11 year old ordered off the childrens menu on our last visit. In fact at cafe orleans they asked him if he wanted an adult or childs menu.

My 14 year old nephew still usually orders off the kid's menu and no one questions him about it. He does look younger than 14 but he sure doesn't look 9! Like 3M1M said, they'll still charge you adult prices if it's something like a character meal with a set price but it shouldn't be a problem anywhere else.

Thanks so much! I think the only 'fixed price' meal we're doing is the WOC dinner. But DD will be happy to be able to order off the kids' menu!

Yes, unless it is a "fixed" menu price like Goofy's Kitchen or somewhere, there is no age restriction on the kid's menus. I order off the kid's menu all the time when I want a bite but not super hungry...plus when you are hungry, ordering two kids menu items can actually be more food and cheaper than a single order off the regular menu!

If you are doing CS then there will be no problems. Even I order the kids meals, as sometimes I find the adult sized portions too big for me, as I'm a small eater.

CS is no issue at all, you just order what you want and take it away. I've ordered kids meals at many CS places for me to eat.
At TS you may have more of a problem....my DD14 is quite picky and doesn't like a lot of the "adult" choices on the menus, the only place we've been given any real "grief" over her ordering from the kids menu was at BB, the server was quite rude about it until I said "fine, she will wait to eat after we leave" (we were celebrating DD11's 10th bday, she qualified as a child because we started her trip when she was 9) and then he backpedaled quickly to say "well, you just can't TELL me she's over 9 and ordering from the kids menu", which isn't true because at CO and CC we've told the servers that DD14 would prefer to order from the kids menu and they have had no problems with that. What they usually tell is "she can order from the kids menu and get the kids portions or she can get double the food for double the price". DD14 is tiny (size 00) so she rarely wants more than what she can get from the kids menus. :)

I agree, I don't think counter service is a problem. After all, they have no idea whom you are ordering for. One adult can walk up and make a big order for multiple people: this happens all the time. So they have no idea if you have a bunch of kids waiting for you to return with food or not.

Wow, that was super rude of that waiter, Pixiewings! I'm glad you told him off! Did you complain to the manager too?
