We were showing dd some of the older video's of her that we uploaded to youtube over the last 3 years including a video i did of our 2006 trip complete with music.

there was a not under the video that said they disabled the audio because it contained copyrighted material.

my confusion comes from all the other disney video's people create using all kids of music, disney and otherwise that have not had their audio removed.

anyone know why youtube is deleting some but leaving others in tact?

this kinda ticks me off because i don't have the original video anymore and now we can only see it not hear it.

I do not understand it either. While I do not have videos on YouTube I do watch some things that I know are copyrighted and I cannot figure it out. How long was the use of the copyright audio? I know my son told me that when they put copies of tv shows on but they cannot be 10 min long so they up load in segments. I do not know if this is true..you never know when you are dealing with teenagers LOL

I honestly don't know the answer, but I would guess that depending on who / what / music / etc. is uploaded, there just aren't enough people out there trying to "catch" you. If they really wanted to stop people from uploading copywrited material (music / shows / or otherwise) than they would have "checks and balances" in place when you first try to upload your stuff. Imagine how few videos would actually make it up there if they did that?

I have a few slide shows up that all have music to them. One of them I received the "copywrite" notice about, and along with it they did say that the record company (or whoever) would allow me to use the song if I would allow for advertisments of some sort on the page. I just took it down as it wasn't that great of a slide show to begin with.

I have noticed on more and more videos that there are links of some sort at the bottom of the screen to download the song via itunes or something like that.

I just hope that the next time I get a notice, it will allow for me to keep the song by adding advertisments on the side or some sort of notice at the bottom.

ya youtube only lets you upload 10 minutes - not sure how some people get more then that but most only get 10 minutes.

here's the link - you can read the message.

i think i'll write to the youtube cs and ask what the deal is

I don't have an answer to your audio question, but you can upload longer videos to youtube. MIL is in charge of PR at a university, and they upload lectures to youtube that are much longer.

I once had a video deleted off of facebook for "copyright infringement" It was photos I took, put together into a stop action video, but I attached audio to it.. and it was the audio that did me in. Not a huge deal to me, since it was indeed not my music, how can I complain about that?

ETA: audio on that link works for me. :)

the audio is back??

hummm i put in a dispute - maybe they liked my arguement :)

Awww, it's adorable! :lovestruc

And download it for yourself, quick! Just in case!!

thanks :) i've gotten much better on the production end

by the way - i love the pic in your siggy - so cute to see them in full princess dress on the tea cups

Yes, you can download anything from YouTube, but definitely your own stuff!

You're welcome. I hope I'll get better too :) (BTW, I have had the same thing happen with audio being muted; I didn't mean to violate copyright, but I legally purchased the song I used specifically for the vid I made, and spent HOURS matching the photos with the lyrics. Anyway, live and learn...)

Thanks :goodvibes That's from MNSSHP in 2003, and I love it so much, I can't bear to update it. I surely need to though. They had just turned 5 and 7 then and they will be 11 and 13 this fall.

how do i download it? i can't see a download button.

i filled out a form stating that i was challenging the copyright law.

i just said the music i used was over 50 year old and there for not subject to copyright laws.

i read that somewhere - or maybe it was files from the government - at anyrate, they unmuted it :)

Sorry, I have to run now, but I will try to come back and tell you how. It's more complicated that just right-clicking, but it's not hard :)

thank you - i'll take a look and see how it works

Ooh! If it's your own vid, there's an even easier way!

Just go to your My Videos page, and you will see a "donwload" button under each of them. :)
