Question about Wireless PC at OKW

I know that this may have been asked but here it is again. I know that they have now installed High Speed Internet in all of the Vacation Homes but do they have anyplace at OKW where I can get on using my wireless connect. I did use the High Speed in the room which was very good but for me it is kind of a waste of $10 because all I need is to check on my business run that takes 10 minutes. We always rent a car so to go to someplace that has wireless may be the answer. I need to do my check after midnight on Thursdays. Does anyone have experience with wireless connects in the OKW area or close to it??
Thanks :flower:

OKW has no wireless connectivity. BCV has some WiFi spots in the lobby area and BWV may have some availability- there is also a connection charge for those too. CSR also has some WiFi spots.

I use Netzero at OKW with a dialup connection- cost is 0.35 per call for DVC members (0.75 for others). Make sure you have a local access number though (most Orlando exchanges are local and there is a complete list of local prefixes in the front of the in-room phone directory). Dialup should be fine for email and limited surfing.

Some have reported finding wireless connections off-site at Kinko's. But, onsite wireless is very limited.

I do not think that OKW has wireless access, but if they ever do you can bet that it will not be free. BTW, free or discounted high speed access to members might be a nice perk. :)

I managed to stretch the phone cord out to the balcony so that I could work and enjoy the view - one of the reasons why I prefer wireless! :teeth:

Maybe I missed it and I know there's no wireless, but does OKW have high data speed ports in the rooms like the other DCV resorts? Not jacks to connect your modem but jacks to connect your cat5 for high speed, fee for service, usage.

Thanks in advance,

ATCMickey

Yes, the broadband connection at OKW is located next to the dining table in 1,2 and 3BR villas (studios also have connections near the table). Cost is $9.95 per 24 hour period. Bring your own Cat 5 cable or call housejkeeping and they'll provide one.

Okay, admittedly DH and I are computer geeks, but we have an old wireless router that we take with us to WDW. We connect it to the high speed connection in the room and then we can each get on with our laptops wirelessly! That's also how I keep my infamous BWV webcam going when I'm there :)

WDWGuru,

My first reaction was...my gosh, you guys really are hard core computer users. I'm embarassed to say that my second reaction was that you're geniuses. :) The wireless router is a great idea!

Thanks all for the update about the availability of the high speed...

After looking at the freewifi website, it looks like the closest place to WDW property would be the Best Western on Hotel Boulevard - right outside DTD.

I guess if you are willing to drive over to the lobby, or take the bus to DTD and walk over, you could pick up service there.

There is wifi in the business center and lobby of BWV for sure. I would guess that's probably also the case at the other convention heavy on-property resorts (Contemporary, Coronado Springs) as well.

WDWguru--just wanted to say that I always look forward to your "live from BWV" webcam. I see on your ticker that you'll be going at the end of the month. Have a great trip!

Nancy :earsgirl:

That's why I do it - I love that everybody loves it so much! Unfortunately, this trip we're only at BWV for the first two nights. We move to OKW on the 25th of October. Assuming OKW has broadband access, we'll have a BWV cam on the 23rd and 24th, then an OKW cam the 25th through 29th!
