I think I might be missing something. I'm listening to 'Wicked' on audiobook. This morning I got to the part where Elphaba goes missing and is then found down under the dock, she's 2 here. Then the next chapter picks up with Galinda and she and Elphaba are in college. Is this right? It seems like I missed so much. What about the pregnancy? What happens with Turtleheart? I wasn't sure if my CD is missing a portion of the book or if this is really how the story goes.

that is how it goes.
You find out the missing pieces later. Its a very choppy book.

I just finished reading this book. I'll have to go check to make sure, but I think that's right. Then later it goes back and explains more about what happened later in Elphaba's childhood.

Isn't this a strange book?? I was no expecting it to be so bizarre.

It is a VERY strange book. Very dark and perverted at points too.

I find his work very difficult to read. Once I am done with the book, I like it, but it is just getting through it. I have been reading "Son of a Witch" since Christmas, and am just now about halfway through. I tend to read very fast too, read the last Harry Potter book in two days.

Thank you guys so much!!! It would have been different if I had the actual book in hand, then I would know I didn't miss anything but without it I just wasn't sure. I'm so glad to hear the missing pieces are filled in eventually. It has bothered me all day.

I really am enjoying it but I think I may have to buy the actual book so I can refer back to parts that I'm getting confused about.

I seen the play in nyc and was confused at your question..

guess the play was totally different..

The show is very different. They both have their good points, but they are very different from each other.

The book is hard to follow, but it is an amazing story. I recomened it if you really want something to read, but be prepared to put some time into it. it is NOT a fast read.

It's a very difficult read. I forced myself to finish it because I had tickets to see it in NY. The book is tedious and dark and very sexual. The musical is very very different. Good luck trying to finish it. I'm still debating reading Son of a Witch.

I thougth Wicked was one of the best books I have ever read, and Confessions of an Ugly Step-sister was great as well. Lost wasn't bad; I enjoyed it. However, Son of a Witch was so utterly unreadable that it was the first new release, in a while, that I didn't finish reading. I've given up on the guy. How the heck could his skills have degraded so badly?

"Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister" was my favorite book by Gregory Maguire. "Wicked" was the first book I read by him (somewhere in 1998 or 1999) and I really liked it. "Mirror Mirror" was very, very good.

"Lost" was very hard for me to get through. Because of that difficulty I haven't picked up "Son of a Witch" yet.

1.Wicked
2.Mirror, Mirror
2a.Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister
3.Son of a Witch...I liked it, read it on the drive down to WDW in October
792,000.Lost (I read the whole thing....I really wish someone would tell me what it was about.)

I liked "Wicked", but I liked "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister" better...want to read "Mirror Mirror" too.

The book was odd, but I did enjoy it - I am REALLY looking forward to the musical...we're going for DD's birthday in a few weeks. We love the soundtrack. I'm guessing the musical is much lighter and leaves out/changes some serious details! This is good as DD's are 10 and 12!

I'm currently reading the book and love it so far. Can't stop playing the soundtrack. Will be going 5/5/07 to see it on it's return engagement in Dallas, TX.

I am currently very into the soundtrack - and my 2 DDs are as well; It's been awhile since I read the book - can someonone remind me why it is that Elphaba is so interested in acquiring the ruby slippers? Maybe you could PM me so as not to spoil it....Thanks!

Wicked was an excellent book. I do think this would be hard to follow on tape the way the chapters are setup.

I saw the play in December and just started the book. I am glad I read this thread because now I will be ready for the confusion and not feel I have to re-read over and over to try and find out what I missed. Peggie

I read the book and loved it. Then I saw the play. And while I liked the play, it was so hard for me to swallow because IT WAS SOOOOOO DIFFERENT!!! I CANNOT stress that enough. It's very loosely based on the book, BUT, very very good in it's own right. Just beware ahead of time- I had no idea and throughout the entire thing, I'm saying, "THAT's not what happened in the book!"

I can't imagine trying to do an audiobook of this though!! It was confusing enough when I had the book in front of me!
