its me hurriane patti formally hanname
i have a question about the weather in orlando in dec.
thanks and keep smiling :cool1:

Patti;

I have been going to WDW during December, usually the week before Xmas, since 1996. The weather can be very pleasant with highs in the mid-to-upper 70s and lows in the lower 60s to upper 50s. It can also be chilly. I can remember one year where the temperature reached a low in the low-to-mid 20s with the farmers worried about frost damage to the orange crop. You need to bring clothes for either condition but its mostly nice during the day and you may wish to consider a sweater or light jacket for evening activitities. I enjoy Disney during the Xmas season; I believe that you will as well. I don't recall a lot of rain during December but there would be occasional days (Xmas last year it rained - first time I went during Xmas to New Years Eve week) when it rained.

The first time that I went to WDW was in July 1995 as the recommendation of a friend. I felt like I walked into a shopping center with the roll of stores. It was hot, temperatures in the upper 90s to lower 100s, and crowded and had to wait to get on rides. It was not an enjoyable vacation. I couldn't figure out why this was considered fun! My friend recommended going back during a different time of the year and so I went back a year later at Xmas. I enjoyed it and have been going back every year since (it helps that I really like Xmas and Disney does Xmas well). The temperatures for the most part are pleasant and as noted, bringing a jacket or sweater for evening activities such as Illuminations may be recommended.

As your vacation approaches, keep an eye on the "10 day weather forecasts" at websites like weather.com. Until a few days before your trip absolutely anything is possible. The first time I took my wife to WDW in December, we also experienced one of those citrus-killing frosts. We watched the forecasts and simply brought along our Chicago winter clothes. While everyone else complained and the staff wrapped the Poly in plastic, we walked around commenting about how warm it was compared to home! And yes, on other trips we've had weather in the 70's. Just watch the forecast and pack accordingly, and you'll have a great time.

We went the first week in Dec. last year. Weather was gorgeous! Spent lots of time at the pool. Evenings were cool. In 2003 my girlfriend went the first week of December and it was COLD. She ended up wearing jeans and a heavy jacket the whole time. I'm hoping for WARM again this year. How about you??

I have been wondering about the winter weather as well. We will be traveling in January so you'll have to let me know what it is like down there when you get back. I was following the Hanname thread in bits and pieces and laughed myself silly more than once. When the mystery was finally revealed I have to admit I cried. I lost my beloved dog Meghan back in January on my birthday. I held her as the she received the final injection and passed on (I am tearing up now even as I type). I miss her so much and really felt for you. I love the name Hannamae. I'd love to meet you one, perhaps if our trips ever coordinate, and we can reminisce over our doggies. Drinks on me. Take care. :wave:

The thing about December is that you get ALL kinds of weather. I usually go during Christmas week, and last year we had two days in the high 80's, and one day where it didn't get out of the 50's. One day was total downpour, really damp and yucky, and not good if you have arthritis. If you live in the east or midwest, just pack your whole closet with your tiny shorts and tanks and sweatpants and winter coats and rain gear, and that should get you thru your trip. By the way, everyone wore sweats at night, I guess it was "in" due to the chill. :rolleyes: It was in the 40's at night.
