We have a new washing machine that we got last month , and a question has been sitting on my brain for a while... lol :goodvibes

Why do you have to put the 'output' for the waste water up high? Is it some sort of physics thing? hehe

Is your washing machine next to your drying machine?

Someday I'm going to figure out why some people call them washers and some folks call them washing machines. I tend to flip-flop.

To answer your question, the reason that the output hose has to be so high is to avoid siphoning of water from the laundry tub back into the washer. If the hose were low enough that the end was underwater when the washer was draining, as soon as the pump stopped, the water would siphon back into the washer. It's as simple as that.
