Well.. I have learned my lesson and have told others who are thinking about buying points...new members most especially. I should have bought where I wanted to buy and not buy into the newest resort with all the incentives..

So now we have our points at SSR and are waitlisting with a deposit down to buy more points on the Boardwalk side of WDW... hopefully the Beach Club where I should have bought when they first started selling them, but DH was still fighting the buying in thing. By the time, he was ready, Beach Club was gone and they were onto SSR..

I am just wondering has anyone else done this with Disney? Waitlisted with a deposit for a purchase at another resort...

When we were ready to add on some BCV, March UY, we were on a waitlist. Disney had my CC number and there would be a $500 deposit taken when the points became available. We wanted 100 points, and it didn't take long for them to become available. There is a thread about buying from Disney the sold out resorts. Some people waited a long time for their BCV UY to come up, we waited less than a month. Then we went back and "ordered" 40 more, not a long time watiting for them, either.

Thanks Bobbi... Patience is one of those virtues I did not get when they were handing our virtues.. ;) :)

Good luck getting your points! :)

My sister and I are both DISers and more opposite than you'd think possible.

I bought only where I wanted to stay ( BWV and add on at AKV hopefully )

DS started with HHI, added BWV ( for standard view studios in Dec ) and just made an offer on VB. She doesn't really care where she stays and uses the 7 month window and doesn't care if she ends up at SSR. She always seems to get a room..:confused3

I, however, am more picky and at least want the option of the 11 month window to stay at my favorite places.

Yup.. that just about says it all for me....when I go to WDW, I want to stay where I want to stay. So far, I have never been able to stay at the BC Resort....I have stayed at Wilderness Lodge and that was very nice, but most of the time I am at SSR......wishing I were at the Beach Club or Boardwalk.

I feel the same way! My guide was very pushy and almost talked us into to buying at SSR instead of AKV saying it was a better deal, cheaper points...and we could use our membership everywhere. As I've gotten more familiar with the system, I wish we did our base membership at AKV with a small add ona t the boardwalk! I really don't like SSR at all compared to the other resorts. Do you think it would be worth it to go through re sale and re buy at AKV?? How much do you usually get back through resale to DVC? Our membership is only two years old.

I see this regret happen so often. It's unfortunate you didn't have an opportunity to ask before having to make the decision. I've argued with so many people over the yearts that it is so very important to buy where you want to stay. As more and more members buy in, it is becoming more and more difficult to actually reserve at the more popular resorts during peak times using the 7 month window. When Carol and I were dating, she already owned 470 DVC points, yet was never able to reserve at BWV when I was there. She ended up having to purchase a BWV resale just to be able to book at BWV. During the inaugural DVC cruise, I actually got into an argument with a DVC sales rep during a member presentation when he stated home resort wasn't really very important. I stood up and stated that he was misleading people by making that statement.

Anyway, if you don't have any luck with DVC, try any of the DVC resale shops. You may have to pay a premium for the BCV, but you should be able to find what you're looking for.
