Question about waitlist and holding points

I had holding points tied up in 2 waitlist requests and, this morning (labor day), I decided to cancel the waitlist and use the holding points to make a reservation for a resort that has availability on the night that I need (my trip is in 56 days). However, the holding points I had used to be placed on the waitlist are not showing up in my account. I cancelled the waitlist 2 hours ago online, member services is closed today for the holiday, but still no holding points in my account. Did I lose the holding points or does it take longer than a few hours for them to appear in my account?
 
Not sure what you mean by "holding points tied up in 2 waitlist requests".

When I've used the waitlists, no points are used until the reservation is actually made - i.e., when the waitlist comes through.

I think you will need to wait until MS is open and call to see what happened.
 
when you "book a vacation" the right hand column shows the points available, and points in holding. the points are not "held" during a waitlist request. when you make a waitlist request, you are authorizing where those points will be deducted from, should the waitlist be confirmed. i'm not really sure what may have happened in your situation, but if you have points in holding, then call ms in the morning. but try going under the screen "book a vacation" once again and see if you are able to see your points.

I had called MS 60 days out from my trip to put myself on the waitlist for an open night in my vacation. I waited until then so the points used to fulfill the waitlist request, should it become available, would be taken from my holding points. That same day, I got an email confirming a reservation I already had, not the night that I waitlisted. I was confused why I received an email confirming that reservation. I wonder if the CM had changed my previously confirmed reservation to use my holding points and put the other points back into my use year? I assumed that the holding points went toward the waitlist since the holding point account change occurred on the same day as my waitlist request. I thought that it was strange that my points would be taken out of my account to fulfill the waitlist but I had not waitlisted before. Ugh, this is so frustrating.

It does sound like the CM worked some magic and used the holding points for your existing reservation. He/She could have done that if there were availability for one of those days and it was less than 60 days away.

You could go to the Members website again and look at the Vacation Points link under My Membership tab. Look at the Activity Statement. It's a bit cryptic, but you should be able to follow the transactions to see if that is what happened.

Okay, the activity statement states that my reservation was "modified" on the date that I had called. Hmmm, do you think that means she worked her magic?:)

Very likely to almost certainly. :teeth:

I'd still call tomorrow to make sure and to say thank you, though. :)

Or they may have looked and saw that some of your days that were already booked had openings so they "rebooked" with the holding points.
