Hi, well I wanted to decorate some aluminum water bottles for our race next month at WDW.
I have a cricut machine and a couple Disney cartridges but I've seen some designs using the Walt Disney font and the castle etc, I cannot find a font cartridges just Mickey font. So my question is how can I do that using my cricut expression, I have an older version. :confused3

Thank you in advance.

Unfortunately unless you have the SCAL (Sure Cuts A Lot) or MTC (Make The Cut) software with your older version on the cricut that was never updated you could use those software programs to utilize the Waltograph font & castle photo from the internet.

Otherwise you need a whole new machine like the silhouette or cameo.

That is my understanding of the process. I have the silhouette portrait so I can cut fonts from my computer and svg files like the castle.

Thank you nancy, so I would need to search for that software or the new machine?

I don't think you can utilize MTC or SCAL any more with the cricut. There was a lawsuit filed a few years ago..

I would get a new machine... either the Silhouette portrait or cameo... The cameo will do bigger projects... the portrait is a smaller version (like the baby bug --- it cuts a 8x11 size)....the cameo will do 12 x 12 and I believe 12x24. I have the portrait and it works great.. I can cut almost anything just on a smaller size... I love the fact I can cut fonts that I have on the computer.

Oh really wow! I didn't know that  with disney?

Thank you so much Nancy, I will look into that, I need a new machine anyway. :worship::worship::worship:

Can you use any vinyl? It doesn't have to be their vinyl? Getting the portrait, I like the cameo but just too expensive.

What else should I get to start?

The lawsuit was between cricut and the third party cutting options from my understanding..

I use vinyl I buy on line not silhouette brand... I know several friends who only use silhouette brand, I know several who use the cricut brand and then others who use vinyl from online stores...

I have the silhouette and I just love it.... I want the cameo but until my E2 kicks the bucket DH said no way! LOL

There are lots of tutorials on youtube... so use them.. especially is you are trying to arc lettering or something... or even you are creating your own svg file from a piece of clipart..

What I would get to get started after the machine... (should come with the blade, mat and basic software)..
1. you will need to upgrade to the Designer edition software (it's about 40.00).. but you have to have it in order to cut out svg files... but it is well worth the money...
2. extra mats (8x11)... the mats do last a long time...but I always keep 2 on hand because I will be in the middle of a project and it will go bad and I'm stuck!
3. 1 extra blade... I do that for the same reason

I think you will love the silhouette portrait..

Been saving & DH is going to kick in $$ for my BDay so I finally have enough to get a cutter ... Looking at the silhouette cameo. Will I need $40 software too? I'm looking at a bundle in amazon with the machine, extra cutter blade , extra mat & some other gadgets. I'm brand new to all this and have been drooling over a machine for a year. Luckily DH did some research and suggested Silhouette ... I was looking at a cricut. Welcome any ideas or suggestions. Want simple to use but also don't want to regret not getting functions I may want later. Seeing onLine that downloadable is probably better than cartridges full of stuff I may not use. I def am interested in vinyl, cloth & card stock cutting since I sew & play around with some scrap booking etc...

Siser EasyWeed is awesome stuff! Cuts great and irons on perfectly. It almost looks like they were screen printed.
