I need help understanding something - my husband and I would like to take our 3 boys to Disney in January. The villas at Wilderness Lodge seem perfect for us but there is no availability even into March. The Disney rep said they are probably "blocked for members" and the excess will be released soon. Does anyone know how this works and when the best time for me to call to get a mid January reservation would be? I really like the idea of two bedrooms instead of two connecting rooms in a different resort. I just don't know how these work! Thanks!

This does not really answer your question, but I would recommend renting points from a member and have them get the reservation for you... it is A LOT cheaper!

I am renting points from a member and my costs through him is $1100. If I rented the same room from Disney it would be over $2300! It takes some trust, but you can get great deals.

On the forums list you can go close to the bottom and they have a section for DVC Rentals... check it out!

I'm by no means 100% sure that I'm correct, but I'll tell you what I think. (I've been a DVC member since '92 so you think I would know - I'm a slow learner.)

At the DVC resorts there are some rooms available to Central Reservations, but the majority of the rooms are available for DVC members.

If, at a certain point (I think it's 60 days), all the DVC rooms are not rented to members using DVC points they become available to Central Reservations.

If you go to the DVC Planning or DVC Miscellaneous board, I'm sure someone will give you a 100% correct answer.

60 days out they will release any unbooked DVC villas to CRO for renting out.

Has anyone that has rented points from a DVC member had any problems with their reservation or closing the contract?

I rented pts for a BWV studio from a member and had no problem. I felt about the person due to their post count. My member had over 1,000 so I had more faith in them.

I have rented points twice with no problems. I am renting points again for next year, quite a few this time so lots of $$ on the line. I have spoken to the person on the phone as well as by email several times and feel very comfortable doing business with her. Saving over $2000 from CRO prices.

I just picked these 2 to ask a few questions.....how do you know how many points you need to rent something....and if they post with a certian villa resort do you have to use that resort or can you get whatever is avail.??

TM & Karyl.....did you find your person on the disboards?? How do you 'interview' the person and decide that it will all be ok??

They have to make the ressie's for you?? Is there a way you can call and check on them b/f payment??

thanks for any info you can give!!!

You can check at the top of the DVC boards for the points calculators or you can just post what you want and wait for someone to respond. Even so, you aren't really renting points, you are renting a reservation made with points owned by a DVC member.

Members can get a reservation at their home resort 11 months ahead of time. If it's not their home resort, they have to wait until 7 months ahead of time.

So if you want something that could be a hot commodity, you'll want a member who owns points at the resort you want to stay at.

As the non-owner of the points, you won't be able to call Member Services for any reason. If you have any problems you will have to work it out with th member. Disney won't get involved in any way.

Also, there is no way you can verify that the reservation is available. Only the member can do that. What you see on line at CRO is not what is available for a points reservation.

To find how many points you need, go to wdwinfo.com (DIS home page) and click on Disney Vacation Club. Click on DVC Point Charts to see how many points are needed at each resort for different resorts/seasons. To find someone renting points, go to the DVC Rent/Trade section under Disney Vacation Club on the disboards. You can find people with points for rent or post a reservation request. Make sure you read the instructions for posting as you need to be very specific how you word things to comply. I have rented all of my points on this board. Your best bet is to rent from someone who owns at the resort where you want to stay, as they can make reservations 11 months prior. I believe that owners can reserve at other resorts 7 months prior. Owner needs to make the reservation for you as well as make any correspondence with member services. The reservation will be in your name, and you need to provide your address and names/ages of all persons occupying the room. The owner will receive a confirmation that they should forward to you. It is recommended that you ask for references from prior renters as well as a contract to protect both parties.

thank you guys for the info....we may do this in the future...it's sort of scary though.....you definitely have to feel comfortable with the person

You guys said to get refrences?? Even that is scary to really confirm...any suggestions on that??

If they have a decent post count and you see them around the boards, it's
usually safe to inquire. I haven't had any problems in the past and now we
have a nice relationship. He'll give me "first pick" of the points I need for
the coming year. Then he does all the work! We're staying at OKW this
coming Dec. for a fraction of the regular rate.

If you don't feel comfortable, then I wouldn't. You have to listen to your gut.
In any case, I hope you get what you want and will have a glorious vacation!

It may be a bit scary to "rent points" from a DVC member. This is a private transaction between two people, and Disney is not involved in any way. If anything goes wrong, you can’t complain to Disney or expect them to resolve any problem.

Renting points requires trust on both sides. Until you physically check-in, the DVC owner controls the reservation, even when it is in your name. This risk is what gets you the big discount, and renting is not for everyone.
