Question about value resorts luggage assistance?

I have read several times that at the value resorts you drop you bags off when you arrive and they will be delivered to your room within an hour. As I understand it you don't have to be in your room to have the luggage delivered. How exactly does that work? Most bell hop services I've used you were given a ticket, called to have your luggage delivered and had to be there to receive it. Could someone enlighten me as to how the system works.

Thanks

Luggage Assistance differs greatly from what most resorts call Bell Services.

Bell Services works for tips so they will not deliver to an unoccupied room since they cannot get a tip that way. So they have you call before sending the bags up. That way you can have your tip ready. :)

Luggage Assistance does not work for tips although they will usually accept them. So since no tip is required, they can and do deliver the luggage to an unoccupied room.

By the way, that thing about getting it delivered to your room an hour later at a value resort - don't believe it. You will get it but will usually take more than an hour.

Are luggage carts available if you prefer not to wait for the luggage service to bring you bags??

I can't speak for the All-Stars, because I don't want to say "Ha Ha, we're better" (although, we really are)...

But here at Pop Century, we work slightly different. We follow the same basic guidelines though. As GoldenOldie stated, "Luggage Assistance" is different from "Bell Services."

At Pop Century, those Front Office folks working in Luggage Assistance (such as myself) want to keep our hours. Therefore, we've made a committment to raise our capture rate, and keep to what we tell our guests. So far, we've been successful at outshining the All-Stars. :) (Not that there's any competition... lol)

When a guest pulls into the Porte Cochere, we offer our service. If the service is desired, we will tag each bag with sticker number tags. (Similar to airline tags, but much smaller) We tell our guests, "Your bags will be automatically delivered to your room within one hour of your room becoming available." Guests then proceed into the lobby to check in.

Once that is done, the luggage is taken into our storage room, logged, and placed on a rack. Anything that needs to be refridgerated, hung up, or locked up is done so. Due to health code restrictions, we cannot accept food if the seal has been broken. Our Dispatcher is constantly monitoring who is checking in, and which rooms are available.

When a room becomes available, that's when the clock starts ticking. The bags then get flagged for the next run. We do two luggage runs per hour. Sometimes each run has multiple runners going out to different areas of the resort.

You do not need to be in your room for your luggage to be delivered, with the exception of Alcohol. Someone of age, and with ID to prove it must be present to accept the alcohol. If no one is there, then we will leave a voicemail, saying to give us a call when we can deliver it.

On the flip side, on your day of checkout, you can request our services to pick up your luggage, and store it while you play around in the parks. When you're ready to pick it up, just stop by, and pick it up. Simply touch the Luggage button on your phone the night before to arrange the service. Service can be arranged day-of, but we'd need at least 1 hour notice of when you would need the luggage ready. (For example, Mears picking you up at 3pm, we'd need to schedule your luggage to be picked up no later than 2pm.)

Should you wish to borrow a hand cart, you may. Simply see a Luggage Team Cast Member for assistance. If you do not have charging privledges on your room, you will need to provide a credit card number. Should you decide to keep the hand cart as a souvenier, you will find a charge of $250 on your bill. We do ask that hand carts be returned within 30-60 minutes, to allow other guests the use.

Tyler- all knowing master of Pop century!!! quick question regarding bag transfers to other hotels. We'll be checking out the 6th and transfering to AKL. any luck our luggage can get transferred?
:wave2:

It sure can. Just give us a call the night before to arrange it. You do not need to be in your room at Pop Century for us to pick it up. However, you will need to be in your room at AKL to recieve it.

Lovely! thanks for the tip tyler. Maybe we might get lucky and get your assistance. ***i'm a big tipper***. thanks for the quick reply:p

Thanks for the info Tyler, we'll be seeing you in Sept. 2004.

Tyler, do most people tip you? And, how much do you on average get tipped?

afsi3838 - Yes, we can pick it up in your room, and then transfer it. Just give us a call the night before to arrange it. :)

Although Front Office is a non-tipped position, when we are doing Luggage Assistance, we are allowed to accept tips should a guest wish. However, we are not allowed to solicit them in any manner. It's not neccessary or expected by any means.

The thing with Luggage Assistance is that one or two people may take your bags, while another person might deliver them.

But like I said, tipping of Luggage Assistance is not neccessary or expected. Should you feel that a cast member went above and beyond, and exceeded your expectations, you may tip if you wish, but a simple thank you and a smile works too. :)

Tyler....how does this work if you have to check out by 11 and checkin isn't until 3 and you are in the parks all day? Does your luggage just sit and wait for you to show up at AKL and checkin, and then the bell hop will deliver it to your room? Or does akl check you in because you've already been checked in at pop century? We weren't planning on heading from pop to akl, but rather straight to the park, but now you've got me wondering...

To be honest, I really cannot say exactly how the whole transfer process works. Still haven't gone through that part of training...

As for Luggage... Pop Century Luggage Assistance will pick it up whenever you want... you don't need to be in the room for it. We then transfer it over to AKL (or wherever) and AKL Bell Services holds it until you call them asking for it.

You can still go to the parks and whatnot, and then instead of coming home to Pop, you come home to AKL. When you get there, I think you still need to go through a mini-check in process, just so that you can get your room number and all that. Double check with that when you check in at Pop... because like I said, I haven't gone through that part of training, so I can't speak with authority.

If we arrive at the "POP" before the rooms is ready and leave our suitcases et al in storage and head to the parks. Will the luggage be delivered as soon as ( or within the hour) a room is available or will stay in storage until we call the phone number that front desk gave to inform us of our room number?

TIA

With "Luggage Assistance" (found only at Value resorts) your luggage will be automatically delivered to your room within one hour of your room becoming available.

You do not need to call, or tell us your room number. We do all that magically. :)
