so I booked a flight using my rapid rewards points and I'm confused.

in the email I received it said that I "reserved travel with points" and told me how many points I used.
however it did not show my flight info, a confirmation code, or the fact that I paid $11ish with my credit card to cover the taxes and fees that are not included when you use your points.

when I log into my southwest account it does show my flight info and confirmation code but still not that I paid for the taxes and fees with my credit card.

this is the first flight that I've use points for so I'm just looking for confirmation that this is how it typically works since when I pay for the entire flight with my credit card I get an email that has all the info in it.

You'll get another email soon with the official confirmation.

The email you got is basically fraud prevention. They always send that email when any flight reservations are made with points in case somebody logged in and tried to steal your points. The points email you get first goes to the email associated with the account.

The flight confirmation email can be emailed to anybody when you enter an email before booking the flight.

I booked the flight a month ago for april 2015.
I have only received that email.

You can go into manage reservation after you click flight at the top and with the name and reservation code you can look at your reservation

as I said I can see my confirmation code and flight info when I log in.
its just that I did not receive that info in an email as I usually do.

I use SW a ton and ff miles quite a bit. No worries. You have your oonfirmation code and that is what you will use to check in. they will send you an email a week or so before saying your trip is getting closer. Don't worry.

When you use your points, while filling out the info, they ask for the email address you want your confirmation to come to. If you leave it blank, you don't get one by email, all you'll get is a confirmation to the email address attached to your rewards, that the points were used. Just go in and look under the reservation number and print it from their site.

When you get to that screen there is a resend conformation link

The annoying part with booking flights with points on Southwest is that you get no email showing exactly what you "paid" (points + $11ish in taxes). Its just the way they do things.I have to login and look up the exact points in my rapid rewards activity. It really surprised me.

IIRC, if you resend the reservation info to your email address, it will list the amount of points you spent.

They really ought to change their system so that you get an immediate email confirmation of your flight reservation regardless of how you pay for it.

Just scroll to the very bottom. All of my confirmations show this at the bottom of the email:

Cost and Payment Summary:

AIR - XXXXXX (confirm)

Payment Information
Payment Type: 5470 Rapid Rewards Points
Date: Oct 13, 2014

Payment Type: Visa
Date: Oct 13, 2014
Payment Amount $5.60

the email I received absolutely does not have that info.
this is why feel like I should be concerned.
although again when I log into my account my flight info and confirmation number does show up although my payment info does not.
I guess I'm probably worrying for no reason since I do have a confirmation number listed in my account but it bothers me that I did not get an email confirmation as usual.

Sorry OP - that response wasn't to you. As I said in my earlier response you didn't get the email. You only got the you used points email.

That response was to the person I quoted who asked why it doesn't confirm how many points they used. Sorry for the confusion.

For anybody who did not receive their receipt after booking a southwest flight...

Go here:

https://www.southwest.com/flight/lookup-air-reservation.html?default=cc

Go to the confirmation option. Enter your name and conf. # and they'll resend you a receipt. This doesn't work well with IE but works with Google Chrome. Also at the bottom of the email you receive it will show your points total as well as any payment of fees via credit card, gift card, or travel credit.

I always get an email that states the breakdown when I book on points..

Thanks for the heads up. I don't know if it has changed from a couple of years back, but I confess I stopped reading their emails carefully after my initial frustration when I first started using Southwest 2-3 years ago and have just used my account since.

I receive 2 emails when I book.

1 titled: Your travel has been reserved with points:
Your Rapid Rewards account reflects that 11005 points from your balance were used on 12/17/2014 to reserve travel. To verify this activity or view details, log in to your account via southwest.com®.

the 2nd titled: Flight reservations for your upcoming trip:
This includes confirmation numbers, the itinerary, and at the very bottom a breakdown of fees and my payment info including how many points used and which CC was used to pay the fees.

I stand corrected - Thanks SouthFayetteFan!!

No problem! I still can't believe it takes 2 emails, 3 confirmation screens, a log in, a couple of drinks and a partridge in a pear tree just to book using points!

Don't even get me started on trying to use points in my account to book a flight for my minor child on their own confirmation (since it's with points) who is flying with you (so they are not unaccompanied). It feels like it takes 40 steps! But it's free (awesome) and it's Southwest (which I love!) so I put up with it!

I dunno but I have used points for me, DH, DGS who was 2 at the time, DBr and DD and have never had an issue ever. DGS had his own conf # but it was linked to mine & whether I looked at his or mine, the other came up too. Have always gotten both emails referenced by a PP within a few minutes of booking. I am amazed at how quick & easy it is including getting points back when the fare drops. And don't get me started on all the free drink coupons they send me!!!

lol

I need to book for minor GD (with different last name) next flight release date...never crossed my mind about it registering her as unaccompanied!

how does one avoid this mess?popcorn::

I booked DGS and I together with points. It gave us 2 different conf # but linked them, I assume because his birthday made him a minor. Never occurred to me nor did I see that there was an issue. SWA customer service folks are terrific. I would call & let them guide you through the process just to be sure. And we also had 2 different last names
