Question about using Disney Gift Card to pay for room charges

I was wondering for the people who have done this. We want to use our magicbands to pay for things while there soon. I have linked a credit card to our resort reservation during online check in. But as soon as we get to the resort if I go to the front desk can I link a couple of gift cards to our account so those get used first before they start running the charges to our credit card?

Not sure if you can link a gift card, but last time we were there we charged everything to our magic bands, then the night before we left we went to the front desk and paid off everything at once with a gift card!

Don’t they place a $100 hold on you card and as soon as you spend over the $100 they run that charge?

This is the way!

This doesn't work anymore for reservations longer than 5 days. They run your card every fifth day, so you can't wait until checkout.

They grow/extend the hold but they don't actually charge it.

Not true. I was there for 2 weeks at the WL in August and they did not charge my card after the 5th day. I went the night before departure and used the gift cards I had and the rest went on my credit card. If your balance goes above a set limit, then they will charge. Ask at the FD what that amount is.

I don't particularly care what happened at the Wilderness Lodge in August, I gave correct information about what the policy is today. So spare me your "not true."

Disney has changed this process so much, I'm not sure what they are doing anymore. Verifying the current practice at the FD when you check-in is probably your best advice.

When we were there in April, the $100 resort hold was indeed placed in "pending" status on my Visa CC upon check-in. I got a text alert on my cell phone as we walked from the front desk to our room. A year prior to that on a different visit, we did mobile check-in for the very first time ever, which was done a day prior to arrival, and that $100 hold was processed shortly after midnight on arrival day ... some 15 hours before we even got to Orlando. The cell phone text alert from Visa woke me up during the night. No joke. On our April trip once again, whenever our magic band purchases (meals, merchandise, daily parking fees if staying at a resort, etc.) exceeded $100, Disney pushed those actual charges thru every day to our credit card as they occurred. When I realized that was what was happening (i.e.: Visa text alerts again), I asked about linking my Gift Cards to the magic band charges,. The front desk CM said the best they could do was to manually use them when I wanted, and they would reverse the credit card charges. That sounded like too much bother I just stopped using the MB's to pay of anything and used the gift cards instead. When the gift cards were used up, I pulled out the credit cards. That turned out to be pretty easy. I'll never use MB's at WDW to pay for anything again. Nonetheless, by the time I got home, the original $100 resort stay "hold" on my credit card was reversed by Disney, and all of the accumulated daily MB charges balanced correctly with the receipts I saved ... and I saved each and every one of them. I did hold back a $50 gift card to pay for the last 2 days of our $25 resort daily parking fee before we left as the first 2 day's parking fees were already process when some other meal expenses were added on. Our April visit was a 4-day stay which may be why the 5-day policy quoted above didn't kick-in when we were there. Or perhaps things have changed since we were there.

Yep, I had given up on MB charging when staying onsite. I just used the GC at each location, the receipt shoes how much is left on the card. Pretty easy. Now I stay offsite or at the Swan so can't charge to it anyway!
