Question about using cash instead of points...

Well it's been a while since I've been on the boards - I wanted to but I was way too busy since I went back to college. Now I've graduated, got a great new job, and am planning our trip for August. It wasn't a planned trip so I'm trying to get as much done ASAP.

Here is my situation. We have enough points for our vacation next May (12 days at OKW!!) and almost enough for this August Vacation. We are staying an extra Friday night because it would save us $221 in airfare if we came home Saturday instead of Friday. Well now I am short on points and really want to stay our final night at OKW instead of packing up and moving somewhere cheaper. So...can I use cash to pay for our final night at OKW? Is there a discount that DVC members get? Do I call MS to do this? Will I have to move rooms since we aren't using our points? What if I get a great AP discount for that one night? Can I then get the AP discount and still have the same room and not have to move?

You shouldn't have a problem getting a cash room at OKW for a Friday night. If available, the discount through MS is 25%. They will link the reservations so you don't have to move, it will be considered as 1 stay. You will get keys for the entire stay. No extra housekeeping (unless it puts you over 7 nights).

You can also try to get an AP rate but they will not guarantee that you will not have to move. I did an AP rate once on a Friday night, our last night and had no problem. I did have to go to the front desk and get new keys but the good part was we got housekeeping on Friday. You have to call CRO for the AP rate and ask them to note the reservation with your DVC reservation #. Also call MS and give them your CRO reservation # to note.
