I never really understood the significance of the Use Year. I saw a resale that I am interested in & it has a Use Year of June. Does this mean I cannot try to make a ressie until June? I am planning Sept vacations for the forseeable future. I am hoping that as long as the points will be there in Sept I can book 11/7 months out (Oct or Feb) knowing the points will become active in June. Is this true? Can someone explain the importance of Use Year? Sorry for my ignorance. I want to be as knowledgeable as possible b4 buying.

If you like to vacation in Sept. a June use year is good. You are right when you think that you can book before you "get" the points, as long as the points are available for the time you book.

The reason a June use year is good for you, is that if you have to cancel a ressie, say for Sept. '05, and you do it before 30 days out, the points that you had for the ressie can be used at any time still in the use year '05, or they can be banked because you would still be in the 100% banking time. The only exception to banking would be for any points that you may have borrowed for the ressie, they will have to stay in use year '05 and would have to be used before the last day of May, '06.

Use year has nothing to do with when you can make a reservation. That is one of the most misunderstood aspects of DVC points. Even some owners don't understand it.

You can ALWAYS make a reservation 11 months in advance, if you will have points available at the time of the reservation. Those points can be either banked, current or borrowed.

As bobbiwoz has already said, a June use year would be perfect for you. You will be able to make your September reservations each year as early as October of the prior year.
