Question about use year.

As you know, I have a contract for a resale at BWV. As far as I know, it should be complete sometime in May. When I discussed the purchase with the salesperson at The Timeshare Store, she asked me if I was planning on making a trip THIS year. I told her "yes." So, she looked for someone that had a resale with points for this year left. Well... I just noticed on the contract that the use year for the resale I am buying is September. I am planning on going either in November OR at the first week of Dec for Dis Con 2002. Since my use year is September, does that mean that I actually will have to bank the points for this year and use next them for November or December? Since I don't go for over 10 days total per year, maybe I should NOT have gotten a resale with points left on this year (of course unless the use year extended until December. That is something I didn't think about, but my salesperson SHOULD have, right? I have a call in for her to discuss it, but I thought I'd get your thoughts on it too. One other question I have. Would it possibly be wise for me to ask the person making the resale to go ahead and make my reservation for me now (to give me a better chance of getting BWV at the time I want,) and work something out as far as the purchase of the points for this year? I haven't heard anyone discuss this possibility on here.

It won't do any good for the seller to make a reservation for you. Once the contract is sold, Disney cancels all of the "old"/existing reservations made by the seller.

Here are my thoughts re the September use year. Current use year points would have been added to the account on 9/1/2001. They are good for stays between 9/1/2001 and 8/31/2002. If you want to use those points after 8/31/2002, they would need to be banked. Banking deadlines for a September use year are as follows:

100% February 28
50% May 31
25% June 30

If there are 2001 use year points still available, you could ask the seller to bank them for you if you cannot use them before 8/31/2002. He/She could only bank a total of 50% right now, as the 100% banking deadline has passed

If the seller/broker is really talking about 2002 use year points (points can be used for stays between 9/1/2002 and 8/31/2003), you will not have a problem using them for a 2002 stay. You could borrow them if your stay is planned for earlier than 8/31/2002 and of course, they would be perfect for use for DisCon 2002.

Good luck with the resale.

FWIW, my understanding is that BWV is completely booked for the first two weeks of December. You may not be able to get a reservation there for DisCon 2002. You could always use those points for one of the hotels in the Disney Collection, though, if the DVC resorts don't have availability.

She told me that the 142 points I would have are for Sept 2002 - Aug. 2003. What the situation turns out to be is that the seller had borrowed 8 points from 2002. That is why there will only be 142 points available. She advised that once we close (early to mid May) I should just keep calling back to reservations and that I could probably get BWV for my Dec trip, because of frequent cancellations. She told me something else I did NOT know - if you reserve a non DVC resort and cancel, you can not use those points to book a DVC resort.

That is correct, when you trade out to a non-DVC resort, your DVC room goes back to DVC to rent out for cash to pay the non-DVC resort for your stay (or your cruise).

That first week of December may be tough to get, you may want to wait list at more than one resort (maybe BCV & BWV).
