Question about Upgrading to AP and memory maker

I read through the tickets sticky and just want to make sure I understand this correctly and have a question about the effect on memory maker.

I purchased a 2 day base ticket online through Disney. Now I'm thinking of upgrading to an AP. As I understand it, I must wait until I arrive to upgrade it in person at Guest Relations, paying the difference in price plus tax.

Is this correct? And since the AP comes with memory maker included, if I upgrade the first day of my trip, will MM be available immediately?

Awesome... and I've seen people on YouTube receive "passholder magic bands". Will they just send me another one but I don't need to use it if I don't want to? The whole sending magic bands for every trip confuses me, lol

After you visit and activate your magic band (usually a couple of weeks) you can look on the My Disney Experience app or site and there should be a link under magic bands to customize your AP magic band. They are also supposed to send you sliders that say passholder but when both my old style and 2.0 passholder bands arrived there was a note saying that they were out of sliders and they'd ship later. You should also receive a car magnet (mine is on my dryer), but they didn't send us one of those this year either.

Since you purchased directly from Disney, call them up and tell them what you want to do. It's likely they'll be able to refund the ticket and sell you an annual pass over the phone.

Just remember NOTHING is on the magic bands. The magic band is just like the KTTW card and it just access your MDX account. Much like a stateroom key works on a cruise. If you have three magic bands (gotten at different times or the same time) so long as they are all linked to the same MDX account they will all access the same information. All FP+, ADRs, reservations, etc can be accessed from all magic bands.

You don't have to get new MagicBands for each trip. During the customization process, there should be an option to decline MagicBands for that particular reservation. Even the customization process for the Passholder MagicBands should have the decline option.
