Question about upgrading to annual pass

I've done a search, but can't find the answer, so I apologize if this has been covered before. If I have a 5 day hopper pass with a value of $189, can I use that to upgrade to a So. Cal. Annual pass plus parking at $229? Or can the hopper pass only be used toward the pass price, not the parking add-on? Also, does the upgraded pass have to be of greater value? I can't imagine I could use the hopper pass for an annual pass and just "forfeit" the difference, right? Thanks in advance.

Disney will take what you paid for the pass (not the value of it, incase you got an authorized discount somewhere) and apply it to a new AP. The AP must be more than the tickets you are trying to trade in. I don't think they upgrade to the So.Cal AP (with the most blackout days) anymore. If you paid for parking that day, bring your parking receipt in and they will credit your $11 parking fee toward the parking portion of your pass.

In your situation, you may only be able to upgrade to the Deluxe AP.

I heard they do not allow upgrades to the SoCal pass- it has to be the Deluxe. I have the deluxe and it has paid itself off already. Plus- you get 10% off on food, and you get discounts at downtown disney!

My brother upgraded 2 day hoppers to the So. Cal pass on our trip last month. He got the pass that has the most blockout days. It only cost like 7 bucks more for his AP, some very very small amount.

In fact, the AP's were going to be a gift from my mom. The ticket booth sold her the 2 day hoppers since my SIL couldn't be there that day, so she could upgrade when she was free to come to the park. This is what they told my mom to do, so I assume it wasn't something special.

Where's the annual pass center now? I thought I remember someone mentioning it's no longer by the Space Mtn exit.

I read somewhere that the upgrade has to be something that is OVER the cost of the ticket you are upgrading. Isn't the So Cal pass less than 189? Maybe that's where the problem is, and that perhaps the parking part of it isn't the actual AP, so its cost doesn't "count"?

ACDSNY, we upgraded just to the right of the right-tunnel after the entrances, the bank, I think? Near the first souvenir place and the bathrooms.

Thanks bumbershoot for the new location! We're heading down on Tues.

They also told me this at the AP center. I think it is certain types of tickets that they are not letting upgrade to the So.Cal AP. (such as the costco discount tickets, the ticket that lets you play for 4 days, one park each day). Not sure if it's all tickets in general that they won't let upgrade. In your situation you will need to upgrade to an AP that is worth more than $189, so a deluxe or premiums are your options. Your parking fees for the day can be applied to the parking portion if you want to add parking, however the excess 'ticket value' cannot be applied to the parking part.

When I got Max his first AP, I upgraded from a park hopper that was actually just a little more expensive than the AP but I added parking to it so it was fine to do - the only stipulation was that the total price was more than the park hopper price and the parking add-on made it work. I think he had just turned 4 at the time, but it wasn't a problem to add parking. This would've been 2 years ago and it was for a SoCal Select. I hadn't heard that park hoppers could no longer be upgraded to either SoCal pass, that just doesn't seem right.
