Question about upgrading to an AP at hotel check in

We bought two day park hoppers in June before the price went up. Since then, we have planned another trip and realized that it would be more cost effective to buy APs.

We will be staying at the Grand Californian in November for just one night, arriving Saturday morning. I would like to get the AP rate for the hotel room. I would like to check in very early, before 7am, so that we can enjoy Magic Morning privileges. Will I be able to upgrade my already purchased park hopper to an AP at the Grand Californian desk or will I have to wait for the ticket booths/guest services to open?

Yes, you should be able to upgrade at the GCH upon check in, but may be a flaw in you plan to get the AP rate for the room. Not sure if they will adjust to the AP rate upon check in since you would have already booked the standard rate. Typically you have to book the AP rate advance and there may not even be an AP rate available any more for your dates by time you check in. Those fluctuate on price and availability with occupancy. You could cancel and rebook, but you would be within the 5 day cancellation window.

I would call the front desk and see what the plan would be and if they could adjust the rate if you purchase the AP at check in.

Hi ParkHopper1,
It's a relief to hear that I will be able to upgrade my ticket at check in. I have read elsewhere that it is possible to book a room at the AP rate without an AP, you just have to tell the CM that you plan to buy one and you do have to show the AP at check in.

We have already booked a room at the standard rate :scared1: so I will have to call back to find out if I can book at the AP rate now.

Thanks for the info!
