Question about upgrading a ticket to an annual pass...

Hi!

I bought some 5 day non-hopper tickets from UO back before the prices went up. We are newer DVC members, and we will be going enough next year that we would like to buy annual passes since it's a good deal with the DVC discount. Is it possible to somehow upgrade these 5 day tickets into an annual pass with the DVC price? How would they figure the difference that I would have to pay? I'm not sure how that works or if it's even possible...and how it works with the magic bands.

Thank you! How do the annual passes work with RFID? Do you keep the same magic band for the whole year?

If you have the AP linked to MDE, when you get a MagicBand for a resort stay that band will access your AP for admission.

Disney has not yet announced availability for the AP holder MagicBands. The AP MagicBand would probably be used for the entire year of the AP.

I believe so. Disney has said that the Magic Band's battery (for the "distance" communication, like character or CM interaction) is good for up to 3 years.

Interesting. This will be our first annual pass ever and I feel like a total newbie between being a new DVC-er, new to MagicBands and annual passes!

Don't feel bad. I feel like a newbie too and I have been a member for 5 years. But, this year will be the first year for us to get AP's and we are planning to do a similar thing as you. We have 5 day tix from UT. I plan to go to the park and use them before upgrading. My only other issue is that we are doing a split stay - so I think I will wait until our second resort to do the upgrade. I don't know how that will work with the magic bands. Most likely, if we get them, it won't be until that second half of our trip. And if it is an option and not a necessity for us I might just not bother for this trip in November.

I would just ignore the magicband issue for now, and focus on the simple admission question. I *have* an AP and I'm ignoring how the MB will work with it. I figure they'll tell me what to do when I need to do it. :)

Good point! That is exactly what my husband said.

That is what I will do! I plan on paying the difference for the AP with our Disney rewards card...hope that is doable!
