Hi guys,

I haven't followed DVC in a few years (had a baby) and was curious about the updated restrictions when buying resale.

What resorts can I stay at if I but a cheap price per point resort and which are excluded? Are there any other restrictions Disney has put in place when buying resale?

Also, has it become harder to book other locations when they aren't your home resort? Is it reasobable to think I can book trips to AKV or Beach Club when I own Vero Beach, etc?

Thanks!

There's a lot of info in the above link -- take time to read it over bc it has a lot of very good and important details....

On the meantime here's a quick short answer to your questions!

- you can stay at any dvc resort by booking at 7 months or later. Some resorts or room types are hard to get at 7 months (beach club, grand Floridian, standard rooms at Boardwalk, club level at animal kingdom) all year round, while others are hard to get during certain popular seasons (Boardwalk/bay lake btwn sept through mid January, Hilton head and vero during the summer).

- certain resorts are traditionally easier to get at the 7 month mark, namely animal kingdom old key west and Saratoga springs

-yes, people are saying it's becoming increasingly competitive to get into certain non home resorts.

- the only restrictions on resale are using your points to exchange for cruises, concierge hotel collection and adventures by disney. You can still use your points at 11mo for your home resort and 7mo for any other dvc property. You can also exchange into Rci. You still have all the member discounts (annual pass, member events, food and merchandise discount).

Hope that helps!

Summary:

DVC now prevents you from using resale points in a way which is, from a FINANCIAL perspective, a bad use of points.

If you want to use DVC points for a cruise for example,

DVC now forces you to rent out the restricted points, and pay cash for the cruise, and pocket the extra money!

Another thing to remember is dues and expiration date. Vero Beach is cheap to buy, but the points expire sooner than SSR and dues are a lot more expensive.

Only buy Vero Beach if you plan to stay there, like for summer time or for a beach cottage. Otherwise, buy SSR so you can at least book WDW if you can't change at seven months out.
