I recently had 3 withdrawals within 2 days that I did not make. My card is always with me and is not lost or stolen. No one knows the PIN but me. In fact 1 withdrawal was made while I was at work and I used the card right before going so I know I had it with me. They were all for the same amt ($101.50) When I called the bank they said they would start an investigation but I would be out the money because it was an ATM. Today I got a letter stating they would give me provisional credit for the money but need to sign an afadavit about it. My question, has anyone heard of this happening and how could it?

i don't know hw it could happen, but you are lucky that they are giving you credit. the times i had my wallet stolen and our checklink card was used we were out $600 in cash for about 2 months until they investigated.

Could it be an internal situation within the bank????? I.E. - an employee making an unauthorized withdrawal??

The amount of $101.50 tells me it's an "out of network" ATM machine.

Somebody's making $100 withdrawals, and being charged an additional $1.50 for the transaction at an ATM not supported by your banking institution.

This CAN be investigated, don't let them tell you otherwise!

Your bank has the code # of the ATM machine where the withdrawals were made, the date and time of the transactions, and most ATMs (if not all) have surveillance cameras.

PROSECUTE! Seek Justice!!

(sorry, injustices in my own life this week...)

Yes, have them investigate it. The same thing happened to us about 6 or 7 years ago. We are in Florida and the ATM withdrawal took in place in Maryland. When I called the bank the first time, there attitude was that we did it. I explained that at 2:30 in the afternoon during the week my husband and I both were at work. Called back and spoke to another rep that knew what they were doing. Come to find out, somehow there was a glitch in the system and the number on the ATM transaction was assigned to our bank account. The rep told me that it was highly unusual for this to happen, but it can happen.

The amount withdrawn was 101.50, the service charge was $1.25. I was surprised they gave me the credit until it is resolved since they first told me it was my loss. It does seem like an odd amount withdrawn 3 times. It's a convenience store near us and they did tell me the times, that's how I knew I had the card with me at the time.

Strange charges can show up on accounts from time to time. Usually its a bank error. Sometimes certain transactions "kick out" or "reject" and have to be posted manually by an employee. A reason for this could be an invalid account number. The employee then has to find an account number and post the withdrawal. Its very easy for the employee to post it to the wrong account. Their work will still balance so they wouldnt realize it until a customer complains. They will be able to research it and find out just where the charge came from. Since you know for sure you had your card, no one knows the PIN and you are sure you didnt make the withdrawals, it should be no problem, dont worry.

However if it ever was a criminal case(someone at work stole the card from you and returned it after using it), they will be able to pinpoint just where the withdrawal was made and they should be able to get a picture of the person who did it too.

Good luck!
