So my family and my sister in law's family are wanting to cruise together. I would prefer to book our cruise and they book theirs. However I am wondering about dining plan. If we dont have the same dining plan, can we call guest services to change it or change it at check in day of? What would be the best route?

Also if we were to have it all booked together and they wanted to cancel theirs would it cancel ours if we wanted to go anyway?

If you book separately, you can link your reservations (call DCL or have your TA do it), so that both parties will have the same dining rotation (assuming that's what you mean by dining plan).
Don't know the answer to the second question, but my guess is that you could cancel one cabin of people and not the other.

Each stateroom is its own reservation - either party cancelling one stateroom would not affect the other. :) Regarding dining, I would call the customer service line and ask them to assist you. We booked our cruise, asked for Main Dining and got it, and then our family booked a second stateroom and we linked the reservations. Despite this, their reservation still showed second dining while ours was in first. A quick call to a customer service agent and they were able to ensure we would all be eating together. :)

Just to save you from needing to call back to link the cruise you will need the lead's name, DOB and reservation number.
