Question about Trip Refund/Credit

Has anyone every received a credit or refund through Disney? I'm wondering how that works, and how long to expect it to take. Do they apply it to your credit card or send you a check?

The short of it is that we paid our upcoming vacation off recently, but then yesterday I was able to get a room discount applied (over the phone with Disney). She said I would receive a credit, but I was so thrilled about the money saved that I didn't even think to ask how the credit would be applied. I can call back and check, but the Dis is kind of my go to place for stuff like this! :) So I was hoping one of you would have had some experience with something similar and could help me out.

Thanks so much!

For ours, they just applied it back to the card we used to pay. It took about a week, I think.

Oh good! Having it applied back to the card would be much simpler all around!

Thanks!!

Yes, they will apply it to the card it was originally charged to and then they make sure to tell you it could be a full billing cycle before you see it but it always shows up a week to 10 days max.

Disney overcharged me for my room by over $100. Weeks after making the reservation, I decided to look at my reservation email, and realized it. I called them, and they told me "Sorry about that! But unfortunatly we can't issue a refund since you've already done the online check in. You will get the refund that you can use towards purchases when you check in."

When I cancelled my November trip the CM told me it would take up to 1 billing cycle if I did my Disney Visa electronically or 2 - 3 billing cycles if it was paper... I don't get it... but as long as I get my money back, that's all I care about.

We have overpaid and gotten the money put back onto the credit card we used to pay. No problem and it was usually within a billing cycle. And yes, it IS nice to have Disney pay us. :)

The reason they say 1-2 billing cycles is because they don't know the "end date" of your billing cycle. Maybe the last day of your cycle is the 9th and you get a refund on the 10th, the next bill will not show it, you'll have to wait til the wait until the 2nd billing cycle.

We had to change a trip and I had paid part with Disney gift cards, part on a credit card, and they returned the funds to the gift cards and the credit part to the credit card. Took a little longer for the gift card refunds than the credit card, but it was only about a week for both.

Thank you SO much for all the replies! I've been kicking myself because I had just paid off the balance about three days ago. I had waited for the room discounts to be released, and unfortunately our room was not available with the discount. So I just paid it all. Then on Monday, the Disney website was showing our room-type as available. So I called, not really expecting anything, but sure enough she was able to apply the discount. If I'd just been a little more patient, I wouldn't have to go through the refund process! Our trip didn't even have to be paid in full until September 25th, but it just didn't feel "real" until I had a zero balance, haha!

Also, this morning I finally got the confirmation email showing our credit, so I'm slightly less worried now! :) I guess it just felt too good to be true, so I've been on pins and needles.

I've never had to wait more than a week for a refund to my credit card, but I guess it can depend on how quickly your bank processes things ( we're in Canada FWIW). I just cancelled our onsite stay to stay offsite last Friday. The money isn't back on my card yet, but I don't imagine it will be much longer. I've switched dates/reservations/rooms a bunch over the years, and it's always refunded pretty quickly.
