Question about transfers..................

Okay- almost ready to do some transfers. I was wondering this- when I use the transfer paper will all the white background show up or will I have to cut out the design before using the iron? Is there a transfer paper that only prints the color and now the white background so that you can transfer it on a color shirt (maybe it is clear where the design is not?). Also- what is the best transfer paper and do I always have to flip my design???

If you want all the white areas of the design to be clear - you want to buy light transfer paper. Light transfer paper requires that you flip/rotate the design before printing. (in most cases - read your directions very carefully) If you put this on a colored shirt - all white areas of the design will be the clear or the shirt color.

For Dark transfer paper, all the white areas of the design will be white and in most cases, the design does NOT need to be flipped.

I cannot recommend a light transfer paper because I only use dark. Hopefully someone else will be by that can help with that.

OK, I am pretty new at this but I use the dark transfer paper. I cut out the entire design very little if anything at all around the design. I went with dark transfers, because I was using dark pink and white shirts. If you use the light papers then where there is white you will get the color of the shirt. I want a transfer that was true to color. So far, have had no problem with the transfers at all. I used Avery because I needed to do it quick, but I herd that HP was better because it is easier to take the paper off the back. It really is a PITA to remove from the Avery brand. I will try the HP next time. Hope this helps!

Thank you for all the info! I did not know the diff between light and dark transfer paper. What is the benefit of using dark transfer paper?

When you use the dark transfer paper the white part of your transfer stay white. On the light paper the white part of your transfer are clear so you get the color of the t-shirt instead. I thin the dark transfers have better color.

I prefer the dark transfers because not only do you not need to flip the design but I think they look better. I think the colors are more vibrant and the finish is more matted. The light transfers are too shiny for me. But that is just my personal preference.

But one plus to the light transfers is that typically the light transfers are less expensive. Again, it really is a personal preference.
