Question about transferring points

we have about 50 unused April 05 use year points. I know we can bank those points to our 06 use year, but I would like to consider the option to advertise a transfer of these points to another DVC member. I have never done a transfer before and I don't think I want to try to rent the points to a non DVC member ( too much of a hassle).
My question to the group is: can I transfer "banked points" or does the transfer have to occur before the points are banked? Thanks

You cannot transfer banked points but once the points are transferred the person you transferred them to can bank them. On a side note you cannot borrow tranferred points, learnt that one a couple of weeks ago.

Sorry to tack on to the OP's question, but........

We have a June use year. We've already used all of our 2005 and 2006 points. We'd love to go over New Years next year (December/Jan 2006/2007) and I want to rent points from someone who will transfer them to our account. I'd probably do this in January.

If we have points transferred into our account in January, they will go into our June 2005 use year. I know that the points are supposed to retain their original home resort/use year ownership, but I also understand that because of the glitch in the system, they will look like they are my June, 2005 points, and would thus expire 5/31/2006. If I wait until January to rent the points (which I need to do for financial reasons), it will be past my November banking deadline (to bank all the points) so that I can use these points in my 2006 use year. Confused yet?

So, what can I do? Any suggestions?

Transferred points do not have to go into the current (your 2005) use year - and since your desired trip falls within your 2006 use year, any transferred points shouldn't go into your 2005 use year!

Look for an owner who has points that will be valid for the late December 2006 to early January 2007 trip you want to take. When you arrange for the transfer, tell MS to put them in your 2006 use year, because the reservation you plan to make falls within your 2006 use year.

Thanks so much, Carol. I didn't realize I could specify which of my UYs I wanted the points to go to. I thought they automatically would go to the current year. That definately solves my problem. Thanks again! I appreciate the info.
