Question about Trampoline's

We have a huge bounce house. We got it at Costco 2 years ago. It is not the small ones they sell at Toys R Us. This one is really big. You cannot fall out of it either. You have to climb up a small slide to get in it. I have children the same age as the OP's. Like any activity you need to supervise. Kids can get hurt doing anything. That doesn't mean I let them do anything they want but I supervise and they are fine. I am not going to not let them try anything because they "might" get hurt. Oh- and they have been on a neighbor's trampoline. I was there to supervise and they were fine. However, I prefer the bounce houses. I feel they are much safer. I think they are a great way for the kids to have fun. You can also take it in at night if the weather is going to be bad so no need to worry about high winds.

We were reluctant to get one but we've had ours for two years now and never had an injury. I did lots of research before and we decided on this one :

It's the safest one on the market and my kids have set rules. It had provided hours of entertainment and exercise.

I just figure the more we eliminate "accidents waiting to happen", the fewer "accidents" we'll actually have. JMHO.

Hiya - sometimes it is the other way round - don't eliminate too much or the kids don't know how to handle risks for themselves so next time you are not around (as happened to us) they decide to copy Tom and Jerry at Grandma's house and roller skate down the stairs - "You didn't tell us not to mum" Luckily just bruises (they did wear helmets thankfully). It is quite funny AFTER the fact..... but boy was I having palpitations for a while.

We had a trampoline at our last house for 7 years. We moved and couldnt bring it with us. It was the best money we ever spent on a "toy" for the kids. We had 3 then and never had an accident. Many neighborhood friends also jumped on it and no injuries. Im not saying they dont occur of course, but kids get hurt on ALL types of things- scooters, bikes, skateboards, etc.- and they need to use caution on everything and have adult supervision. We had the trampoline with the enclosure and the kids litereally jumped on it everyday during the spring, summer, and fall that it wasnt raining. My DD18 still even begs for us to get another one. Our new house just wont work with one. Ours did blow over 2 times. Each time it actually went over our chainlink fence and it was a pain to get it back over. We finally got smart and chained it down and that worked. Our 3rd child still jumps on our neighbors every few days or so.

As an ED nurse I can tell you that Trampolines are the most freq injury in the ED. by children .followed closely by scooters, heelies, and atvs. I actually saw a 4 yr old paralyzed for life because of the trampoline.I don't even let my DD4 on them at other peoples houses.I have seen way too much.:goodvibes

I have been looking into to one for my boys, but if we get one, I want a pit trampoline. I am sure they can still get injured but at least they are close to the ground. But after reading all of the injuries here, I think I might rethink getting one. Yikes!!!

For those who have never heard of a Pit trampoline, here is a little about them. They are built into the ground so they aren't elevated.

I am a daycare provider. If we have a trampoline our insurance will be canceled To many kids get hurt. I have a large bouncing house, used with strict rules

You see more trampoline injuries than bicycle injuries? I am surprised by that. I have experienced the absolute opposite. The summer months seems to me to be full of bicycle, skateboard etc. injuries. I've had a few trampoline injuries, but they were usually two kids bounding into each other or no enclosure trampolines. I wonder if this varies geographically how popular trampolines are in general.

Yep, I was surprised at the final statistics myself last year. But Trampoline injuries were number one.ATVs are also real popular with the injury numbers.I think it is geographical. When I was an RN down south , Bike and scooter injuries were number one.Every yard around here has a trampoline in it.I have one neighbor that their trampoline is next to the pool( talk about an accident waiting to happen) I will never put one of those in my yard.

I know that my 2 DD's would absolutely love one, BUT my DH will not entertain one whatsoever!!, I agree I do think they are dangerous, I've heard of a dad who unfortunately broke his neck and died infront of his children whilst on a trampoline!. I'm aware that accidents happen any time, but it's just not for us.
