Hey guys. There will be 8 of us on our next trip... Well really 6 1/2 ( my dd just turned three and her cousin is not even two yet.... But never the less there will be 8 together at all the meals.

Here is my question... We they go ahead and add the tip to our bill? There are three families in this total, and we will all get sep checks. Will they count the babies toward the group total? We always tip well :teeth: , but we want to give it :goodvibes , not be demanded to give it. But, I do understand why they would put it on the ticket. They dont know that everyone will tip nice.

My hubby always tips at least 20%, but when they add it to our bill he gets upset. Then he wants the manager. I just want to crawl under the table and cry!!! :rotfl: He thinks they are trying to pull one over on him (double dipping) LOL

I just want to be ready...... :wizard:

TIA

It's nice to see others tip well besides me.

If your DH is planning on tipping the 20% anyway, who cares if they add it to the bill? And if they do, how is this getting one over?

Large (most of the time 8 or more persons) parties are automatically charged a gratuity, you are correct. That server usually has to give up a table or two to devote attention to that party. Especially with separate checks, as that is a MAJOR pita.

What is your DH planning on saying to the manager? "Well, I don't mind the 20%, as I was planning on giving it anyway. . . it's just that I wanted to do it. . ." (Mommy, I wanted to push the elevator button!)

Help your DH chill and enjoy the dinner. The servers have a hard enough time. . .

As you step up to notify the host that you are here for your reservation, quietly ask about their rules regarding a party with your size. Some will add tips for over 5; some will not. If you really want to know, I'd just ask :flower: Correct information can never steer you wrong. Are you thinking of getting a DDE dining card? If you're an AP holder, it costs $50 and your party can save 20% at a long list of eateries within the World. Sounds like a discount of that nature would be very beneficial to you and yours. :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsgirl:

The gratuity is included when you use a meal voucher. It's always nice to give a little extra though!

I have the two most amazing children in the world who were "restaurant trained" since birth (our family business) and yet they are still as much work for a server as an adult, and a bit of a mess. If you say something before hand your server might not do his/her best at your table (even though they should but that starts the meal with a negative connotation) because they will assume you're one of those people who wants everything for nothing. You can tell your husband that at restaurants were there are busboys, runners or a bar, the servers have to give a portion of their tips to these extra helpers. Maybe then he won't feel cheated. I hope that helps a little.
