Question about tickets with FP+ and MDE

We are going to WDW this Summer. We have two friends who are supposed to go with us, but are not 100% sure. I needed to purchase new tickets for my family so I went ahead and purchased two extra for them (and they can pay me back if they go). I plan to link them in MDE so we can book our FP+ at 60 days out. We go to Disney at least every year, so if they don't come, I just plan to save them for someone in my family's use at a later date.

My question is this, if I link my tickets to MDE to these two friends and one or both of them don't go, is the ticket still just an unused ticket that can be "unlinked" and anyone in my family can use at a later date? I am assuming this is the case, but want to make 100% sure. I would think the ticket would not really link to you until you are at the gate, but----it got me to thinking and got me worried.

Thanks!

As long as a ticket remains unused, it's fully transferable.

I think you have it right. The terms I would use are you "linked" the tickets to your MDE account. Then you "assigned" them to your friends. Before the tickets are used for entry, they can be reassigned to anyone else you want, and they will remain linked to your account.
