Question about tickets / offsite stay

We are flying in tomorrow for a cruise and have one full day in Orlando before we board. We want to take the kids to MK for one day on Friday. We are Disney vets but it's been a while since I've stayed offsite.
Question is, if I buy the tickets online direct from Disney, do I just show a barcode on my phone or do I need to get a physical card? Actually 4 of us have old magic bands, but my toddler does not since he hasn't been since he was an infant but is now 4.
If it helps, we are going to Disney Springs tomorrow after we land if I need to go to guest services then. I just don't want to deal with anything at MK Friday morning about tickets.

The old MagicBands will continue to work as long as they are marked as "Active" in MDE. You would need to link tickets to the same profiles. As for the toddler, the Ticket Center at Disney Springs can issue a KTTW card for him and (if you want) for everyone else. For these kind of issues, Guest Relations at Disney Springs typically sends people to the Ticket Center which is very close by.

You can get the physical cards.

We like using either the wallet in our phone or magic band. Those seem like the 2 easiest methods for us, start to finish and in between.

In your situation I’d likely choose to use our existing magic bands, and either buy a MB for the 4yo or add their ticket to my phone wallet.

so to clarify, I don't have to get physical cards, I can just use my phone and my apple wallet for the barcode? We did this at Disneyland a couple years ago, but I wasn't familiar if it worked the same at World these days.

Yes, you can just use the phone. Each person's ticket scans individually, so you have to do a lot of swiping for the family. If you might buy G+ and/or ILL$ then I'd suggest either using the old MBs or using hard plastic cards (available for free at the tapstiles).

Right, you don’t have to get physical cards.

The upside to that is you could buy the tickets online and add to your MDE, avoiding the need to buy in person at Disney Springs. The other upside I find is not liking keeping the cards safe and having to keep taking them out and putting them away.

My party doesn’t have young children anymore, so it’s easy for us all to use our phone wallet. With younger children it was easier to use Magic Bands. Since you already have MB, that’s a great option. Then you’d just need to make a way for the 4yo to use their ticket electronically, either through a new MB or putting their ticket in someone’s phone wallet. That person would need to scan their MB and also their phone (for the 4yo ticket) which isn’t hard.

Knowing how to use the phone wallet comes in handy because it’s a fail safe if someone loses their kttk card or MB, they don’t need to visit guest services if they pull up the ticket on phone instead.

Thanks!! My other 2 kids are teens so they will have their own phones, so we may just do that. Thank you all!!

Some members of our party do not have cards and the app has tickets for 9 of us. Cards would be easier. Do we have to go to a ticket counter or can we get them the first time we enter the park at the mickey head stands?

You can get them at the Mickey head stands (tap points), but issuing cards for 9 people will take some time. Out of consideration for the guests behind you in line at the tap points, it would be good to get the cards first. You can go to any ticket booth outside any park, or to the Official Ticket Center in DS.

If you’re staying at a Disney resort, the cards for unlocking the room door can be configured by the front desk of the hotel to be Key to the World cards and will be the park ticket as well.

You do not need cards. I still always get one as a souvenir, as gluing my phone screen to a scrapbook just isn't as much fun.
