Question about tickets added to room key

I know we will have our park tickets on our room key. I just have a question about the finger-scan thing.

When do they activate that. Our first park, that we go to?

I am planning on checking into the resort, while DH goes for groceries, and keeps the kids busy, if the lines are long. I just need to make sure he doesn't need to be at the desk w/ me, for anything.

You will do the scan at the first park. No reason why he can't go shopping while you check in.
