Question about the summer crowds...

I'm currently a southern california passholder and was thinking of upgrading to the deluxe. How are the summer crowds when the Southern cali passports are blocked? Is DL still packed due to kids being out from school and the such? thanks.

I think Summers are always busy busy busy especially July and August but that is just my opinion.

It's safe to say that those days will be relatively crowded, especially with the new World of Color. However, not nearly as crowded as those few summer days that are not blocked out. I actually have a feeling that both DL and DCA will close due to crowds on those days. July-early August shouldn't see park closures due to crowds, although there will still be a fair amount of people there.

In recent years summer days during blockouts have not been as crowded as Spring Break. Summers during blockouts are busy. Not overwhelming. But busy. And IMO very manageable.

How is the weather in July and August? I loved the weather in June, but couldn't take all the Murphy the Dragon stalking crowds. Thinking if my WDW plans fall through, I could do DL instead. But how's the weather? I don't like high humidity, and I really dislike when the fire season starts and it smells smoky. Anyone know when the fire season starts in So Cal?

I used to fight fires(borate bombers back then) when I was a kid and trust there is always something to burn in SoCal. I can think of parts of LA that could use a good cleansing.

- We don't really get humidity in So Cal like Florida does, so that's a non-issue.

- Fire season is July - October. If we have had a bit more rain, it's more September - October. Basically, the cooler the summer, the shorter the fire season.

- And, since we are covering all the fabulous things that So. Cal has to offer: earthquakes can occur at any time.

All of that said, I love living here and there are very other places on Earth I'd rather be.

My husband is a firefighter and has been on wildland fires as early as May and as late as October. It really depends on lighting storms, or campers who are carless with their fires, or smokers who again are careless with their cigarettes, or the crack pot who intentionally starts these fires. Like PP said, if there is something to burn, it will burn.

So, if you really want to go to DLR without smoke, aim for Nov- April.

Thanks for that info. We were there last September when the fires were pretty bad. I remember seeing ash on our car several times. The air quality wasn't as bad as I thought it would be though. I guess I can handle the fires if there are any.

Not necessarily, just because we got the rain doesn't mean that it was stored in the hillsides, flash floods occur because there is nowhere for the water to go but downhill, much of it runs off into the sea. What actually happens is that the flora grows abundantly and when there is no water in the summer dies off thus creating more fuel for the fires when there is so much dead growth on the hillsides.

Some years we have Indian Summer when October and September are hotter than July and August.

Oh yeah, I remember in 1997 IIRC, we went in Oct and it was hotter in Anaheim than it was in Las Vegas due to the combined heat and humidity.
