Question about the sand pad

I was reading about the sites at FW and am a little confused when people are talking about the sand pad and concrete slabs. Are these on every site or just certain ones? I am trying to figure out how you would stake out a tent on sand. What is the purpose of the concrete slab. Any time I camped, the site was just a cleared area with grass or dirt.

Another quick question: Does anyone know how far away the electrical outlet is? I know this is probably a hard question to answer, but trying to figure our how long of a cord I would need to be on the safe side.

At each site that has them, there is an area of sand and ground shell framed by wooden beams to stake your tent in, hence the "tent pad." As each occupant leaves, mousekeeping will rake the sand so it looks pristine for the next camper. My electrical box was at the corner of the sand area, and I used a heavy duty extension cord connected to a power strip for the coffee maker, clock radio and fan. I think some sites are completely paved, leaving little to no area to pitch a tent.

The sand pad is a blend of clay and coquina shell from what we were told and will hold tent stakes just fine.
it will depend on your site and where you pitch your tent but a 25' cord should reach but I would bring a couple of cords and a spliter to run multible things.

Premium sites have no pad. The other types [Partial, Full, and Preferred] have pads of various sizes with Partials having the largest pads.

The concrete slab portion can hold your car and/or small rv/camper. I've also put my pup on the sand pad.

As much action and visitors those loops get at the fort, simple dirt or grass won't cut it.

All sites have a concrete pad for parking a MH, trailer, popup, or car/truck. Premium sites have ONLY the concrete slab, which was enlarged a couple years ago to make entering and leaving as well as patio life better. Preferred sites have a smaller slab and the sand/cocina section toward the rear of the slab. Unless you have a self-supported tent, it would be hard to put a tent on a premium site, but on a preferred or full hookup site it would be no problem.

If you told them you are tent camping, they will make sure you are put on the correct site. More that likely you will be in 1500 or 2000 loop. You don't want 2000 it is isolated to the other side of the camp ground. The best is 1500, it is a smaller loop but close to The Meadows Store, pool, arcade and the nightly campfire/movie. You can call now and request that you would like to be close to the Meadows. They can't promise but have always honored my request. Call about 5 days before you arrive and ask again.

From past camping you may want 2-25ft cords just in case and a power strip.
FYI they rent tents and cots also. The Meadows store does carry alot of things besides food.

My daughter (adopted) and I have been going camping there since she was 4 and still do 3 to 4 times a year. She is 14 now and tells me she still loves it.
